So much lawlessness in big US cities these days

Sad times.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Midtown at night is not the best place to be wearing something flashy, but you’d be fine in other (more residential) parts of Manhattan. It is surprising that this happened on 60th/mad though. It’s a busy block with thr...

NYC is a big place, rolexes are everywhere, overwhelming chances are you'll be fine

But if it makes you feel better not wearing a hype Rolex or AP while spending time in the touristy areas wouldn't hurt. In this case I would wager the location was more of a risk than the watch...

I wouldn’t consider this a risky location

It’s the heart of the upper east side with 8 figure residences, top restaurants and great shopping.

Perhaps but if I wanted to rob some rich old people that's exactly where I'd go.

Upper east side is certainly not a high crime area but when it comes to stealing luxury goods from defenseless people I can't think of a better place in NYC. Just saying, no one is scoping out the dive bar around the corner from me on the lower east side ...

Keep in mind this exact restaurant had a previous shooting.

This spot is risky in a generally very safe area.

Saw this on the evening news.

As has been said, I would think that the thieves would be on camera somewhere. I just hope that the NYPD hasn’t been stripped of the resources needed to pursue the matter.

Whoa!

I know those grey market dealers will go to all sorts of lengths to get Rolexes, but this is too far!

I know what you're all going to say...

"these watches are worth whatever someone is willing to do to get one. Stop complaining! It's the free market!"

Thanks De Blasio 😡

Increasingly common unfortunately.

I had long changed my watch wearing habits when in certain countries but the last two years or so I’ve also adjusted my habits in the US. This is one of several similar incidents in Manhattan in the last few months.
