.......I do enjoy reading about his thinking.
"The correct statement of individual rights is that everyone has the right to an opinion, but crucially, that opinion can be roundly ignored and even made fun of, particularly if it is demonstrably nonesense."
Watch collecting just cannot be pigeon-holed. What triggers a response in one person may be an irrelevance in another. Look at Paul Newman Daytonas....a subtle change in dial style and the watch is worth the equivalent of a house. Big Red Daytonas....one minute they are just another Daytona and the next it has become the latest hotly in-demand Dayto. Double-red Sea-Dwellers.....that tiny little bit of red on the dial and...boom! Its super hot compared with exactly the same watch without the red. This type of thinking can be extended on and on and not just within Rolex.
What determines how or why an individual (or collectively a market) values anything is always subject to vagaries. One thing for certain, though, Mostel, calling such collectors insane, gullible or susceptible to utter nonsense is ..... perfectly your right (albeit slightly rude).....and the equivalent of King Cnut ordering the waves to retreat.
Just my opinion.
Thanks for your thoughts.
