“The Daytona”, the watch that most want!
I went trough all modern models starting with the Zenith all the way to the recent one, I couldn’t bond with eider.
All had faults that at the time couldn’t accept or matched with my expectations.
The Zenith with the anorexic hands, rattling bracelet and cheap clasp lasted one month in my collection, the 116520, did better awesome solid case, bracelet, clasp, but too shiny a scratch magnet and unreadable time, also left, but I gave it another try because the Hype for Daytona’s started and the forums and social media convinced me, so I bought it again.
Owned it for a couple of months the feelings didn’t changed, off it went again(I made $1K profit).😂
Fast forward the new one got released!
My AD offered me the first one he received (huge fight over it with a famous celebrity), I got it , and in the almost four years of ownership I wore it maybe fifteen times.
I can deal with the watch, I love the movement(I think is a benchmark of the modern automatic chronograph) but the dial and the screw down pushers are a huge turnoff for me.
The time is hard to read due to the sundial dark circles and the screw downs are annoying. So I’m in the same camp as you, and as many times I decide to sell it, the price jumps up and up again! I Even have the stickers on the clasp!
With the prices this things are fetching this days, I feel like running to a wall and bang my head in it, but as a timepiece I have no regrets, at least I have my own experience with them not someone else’s.
Now I wish I would own all this models, because I understand the evolution of the line...
So same as you after four years I still have in the watchbox, and while I love Rolex(the divers and the GMT’s), the Daytona is just a dust collector at best!
My advice is that if you don’t need to sell it or you didn’t find something better, just keep it and think of it as an achievement!
Now the new Sub date, its a different ball game!
Want, want, want!😂
As always, this is my opinion only and everyone’s mileage may vary...
