My thoughts on this topic have not completely jelled...
It's an ongoing theme for me that bubbles to the surface from time to time... a work in progress. I think part of it's cultural and there are some basic construction elements all across. A parallel might be 'corporate speak' where a certain vocabulary within and organization is developed to convey complex ideas in short hand.
