and you will get list upon list... typically something like the following...

№ 01 Rule of Thirds
№ 02 Centered Composition and Symmetry
№ 03 Foreground Interest and Depth
№ 04 Frame Within the Frame
№ 05 Leading Lines
№ 06 Diagonals and Triangles
№ 07 Patterns and Textures
№ 08 Rule of Odds

I tend to favor № 05 Leading Lines.  In fact these lists are commonly headed by text such as 'how to improve your photographs'.  Consciously or unconsciously it's hard not to think in terms of these 'rules' when looking through the finder.  My take is that it has something to with the language of imagery, the graphic clues we incorporate into our photographs to connect with the viewer's perception of beauty... I could be wrong.
