Agree with you 100%.. in my eyes, it takes a 60mp mf sensor to get close to a 24mp mono cam..

 

As to the actual tones produced, i’m sure it’s not 1:1 as the M246 outputs more than 16k shades of bw which means deeper blacks, for example. But then at 60mp conversion to bw, software like LightRoom has a lot to work with to make it a close fight. Personally, after having shot exclusively with the mono for more than 5 years, i can safely say that the smoothness in tones especially blacks i can see in my X so much so that i can live with any difference it may have.

Having said, a friend of mine who prints for Leica locally told me that the Q3 files can actually give the 60mp files of the X a run for its money. If the Q3 had a 35mm focal length, I would have been tempted to ditch both the X and Mono smile

I was supposed to borrow the Q3 from the boutique but my trip got moved up. Otherwise, I would have had a 3rd pic here to show!
