5170P discontinued

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : January 10th, 2019-08:22
Good morning fellow purists, the last time I posted a question regarding a discontinued watch I was lambasted for asking so I hesitate posting that the 5170P is discontinued. I have it from two very reliable sources that is the case. Please give me the be...

This watch was always on my

wish list and i think it s a fantastic piece ,TBH no clue why PP ceased production (if they did)but i m sure it will be sought after very soon ,the whole concept crowned with the diamond makers is sublime .Did your source mentioned any particular reason ?...

Thanks

Two AD’s have told me Patek informed them they will not be shipping any more of 5170P out to them. No official announcement form PP I know of but probably will happen during SHII with other sources. I love the watch and it will go nicely with my 5740/1G ...

I had the pleasure to see one over the Christmas break

And really loved it. If you do, and have the opportunity, then one must not deny the callings of their heart Likely this is a model that will slowly come to grow on people, though I appreciate the diamonds make the otherwise subtle P a little less so, and...

I agree Niall

What’s not to love! Thank you for your comments, I’m working on getting one now but the prices are not half of a 5070G really about the same on the secondary market depending on the metal and dial, they are half the price f a 5070P which would be more com...

Then you will be very surprised!! [nt]

In my opinion, this is the best looking dress chronograph ever made...

...take the obvious like Datograph, 5370P, etc. aside. Unfortunately I couldn't afford it and probably won't anytime in future with this crazy market. Actually it had a 2 year production if I remember correctly.

Release about Nov/Dec 2017

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : January 10th, 2019-11:43
So that would make it about a 1 year run depending on how many are still in stock at AD’s. I doubt there are many new ones out there as they were selling at list when they first came out. I love you thoughts on the 5170P “this is the best looking dress ch...

2 years in their catalog.....2 years of production

I walked down Bond St last week and saw two for sale in AD windows. Its not hard to find.

Didn't know it had that short of as production life.

I mean I'm one of the people that puts A. Lange movements above Pateks but I put their case and most dial designs above A. Lange, hence I think the 5170P is superior to it's 1815 rival as a complete package.

don't know if will remain in production but...

I love mine! it's chic and elegant, with a perfect case and really nice mouvement. despite de diamonds it can be worn quite easily but it will always polarize the opinions. the diamonds are discreet but once you know they are there they are pretty obvious...

Yes

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : January 10th, 2019-11:46
The diamonds are discrete and like my 5740 do not scream jewelry, hard to notice if not looked at closely. I also own a Panerai 30 with baguette hour markers and it is the same thing, people sometimes ask “are those diamonds I see” but not until they are ...

The diamonds on this one are ok.

It is a gorgeous piece

 By: keks : January 10th, 2019-12:28
Absolutely stunning and believe will be a future classic... In terms of collectible I have no thoughts, I prefer to own watches I enjoy wearing

Quite frustrating if true as my long-standing order has not been filled yet.

However rumour is that there will be a steel one launched with the same blue dial.

Pros and Cons as I see them

 By: galt : January 10th, 2019-15:23
Personally I really like the 5170 in its most recent variants (non pulse scale versions). Pros -In house Patek movement -Very elegant design and nicely sized -Hacking Seconds, a first for a Patek Chrono -Not for the "P", but I think the arabic numerals ar...

You could be right...

 By: ChristianDK : January 10th, 2019-15:31
It’s a nice piece - Even with the diamonds. However...regarding the value, ii find it unpredictable. But I don’t se a mega trend for this type of watch. If you like it - get it. Anyway that is my approach. I have been lucky with some, but not so much with...

Thanks Christian

Your comment are spot on, I love the 5170P and certainly would like to see it hold it’s value, which I believe it will, but it would be a long time before I would consider selling it so, you pay your money and takes your chances...Jim

When the 5070P was being allocated..

 By: jonrus : January 10th, 2019-20:38
It was no question a very sought after watch. There was not an AD with a watch on display. The 5170P on the other hand can be seen on display in many AD.

Not a problem to get a 5170p if you like

 By: lascases : January 10th, 2019-23:45
there are 33 pieces for sale on the well known platform. 5170p has been produced in higher numbers, i.e. not a particularly rare watch.

Your are correct Lascases there are (33) 5170P’s 4 sale

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : January 11th, 2019-07:21
And they are priced with a $30K spread. You are also probably correct that more 5170P’s were produced but we don’t know that. So I look at it like Christian does in his post, If you love the watch and can buy one (especially from an AD) at the lower end o...

If so

 By: watch-er : January 13th, 2019-16:31
the simple in-house chronograph movement will be done in a new case. The 5170 series was at best a big disappointment to PP and not on the merits I would add. The affection for the Lemania movement was way over blown. Perhaps the way the whole thing was d...

It’s perfectly ok to discontinue...

 By: LPPP : January 13th, 2019-23:33
Just introduce a new and better looking one. Not priced higher of course : )

Your posting

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : January 14th, 2019-07:57
Is a little confusing to me, what do you mean “the simple movement will be done in a new case”? The rest of your post seems correct, 5170 was not that popular and reflected in the secondary market...Jim

If I had the funds available, I would buy it without thinking twice

 By: 1WatchMan : January 14th, 2019-12:48
But at "market price", not at "retail price".

Thanks for the post

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : January 14th, 2019-16:24
It is a wonderful watch...Jim
