Radone, thanks for your reply!
"premium just because the "crowd" is crazy about something"
Hope you didn´t think it was my intention to offend you or anybody else. It was just a very personal view with the idea to support a fellow Purist, if at all.
"Premium" You are happy with what you paid. Perfect! I know your passion for watches. I know that you are a mature collector with lots of experience. I can understand all your points, but I don´t agree with all of them. Mainly because of a different view - my own very personal and of course subjective view.
You mentioned the price increases and you mentioned some competitors, ok. Still no reason for me to pay premium.
Example: I tried the 5070 (each metal) several times and sometimes I was close to jump on it, but at the end I never got one for me. Something was missing, something was just not right for me. If I change my mind afterwards and will fall in love with that piece, well let´s call it bad timing. I am sure there will be another beauty with better timing
Best,
Oliver

and it starts to be the time to buy the presents. Within two next week I'll buy a present to myself and it's going to be a Patek chronograph. I have decided already many times that I will get 5170G but every now and then I'm going for 5960P. Both of these...
5070G plus 5170G
By: dr.kol : November 17th, 2013-00:58
would indeed make a fantastic pair. I still see the movement of your 5070G when I close my eyes. I had a long and good look at that next to your home sitting outside in the cafe. The new movement of 5170 has great specifications. At the same time the old ...

By: patrickh : November 17th, 2013-00:52
in my humble opinion as: -useful 12 hours chrono, -nice 3 windows calendar easy to read, -lume hands and markers, -power reserve on the dial. note that PR indicator does not cross Patek Philippe in older versions My choice was grey dial version which is s...
5170G
By: foversta : November 17th, 2013-01:15
I would go to the 5170G: I love its applied figures and its elegance. And I have to confess that I'm not a great fan of the 5960, I find it quite confusing (not convinced by the subdial) and the visible movement remains a 324 which is fine but not excepti...
Thank you Oliver,

your advice is very sound. I have also been thinking about the chronograph of VC. Isn't is so that the movement of the automatic chronographs of Patek are based on 324? You'll hear/see soon what was my final verdict. Best, Kari
Premium
By: radone : November 19th, 2013-01:33
Oliver, I believe that the "premium", which I decided to pay for, is fully in line with Patek's pricing strategy over the last 5-6 years. Judging by the prices of 5170 G and J, I am sure that a new 5070 G would have costed at least 50.000 euro, if they wo...
I was not offended at all
By: radone : November 19th, 2013-07:22
Sorry that it might have sounded like that. We are making choices all of our lives, don't we? My point is that even with the premium, given the current values of some high end chronographs from diferrent manufacturers, there is some reasonning behind the ...

Why not a 5070p I think you once said you doubted between the 5070p and the platinum perpetual, you went for the perpetual. But was it the right choice, you once posted this question yourself. The 5070p won't become cheaper and will even go up one day. Yo...

If they would make a 5170 in platinum I wouldn't be surprised it would be close to xxx. On xyz you can find a 5070p around xxx (Note by the moderator: No discussions about street prices. Thanks!)
Yu are lucky.

I would not know which one to choose; 5070G or 5170G. I love the level of finishing of the movement of 5070 while the movement of 5170 is technically fantastic and the watch is of the right size for my chicken wrist. Best, Kari
Thanks for your opinion.
By: dr.kol : November 18th, 2013-08:53
The problem is that I'm not crazy about the AC complication. At the same time I would rather have 5140G plus 5170G than 5270G. The two watches cost just the same as 5270 but I do not like thick watches and in my opinion a perpetual is nicest with an autom...
