Premium
Oliver,
I believe that the "premium", which I decided to pay for, is fully in line with Patek's pricing strategy over the last 5-6 years. Judging by the prices of 5170 G and J, I am sure that a new 5070 G would have costed at least 50.000 euro, if they would have still produced it. Girard Perregaux is charging Euro 25k + for their 1966 column wheel chronograph. One can hardly find a chronograph for less than this amount. You probably know better than me that Patek has heavily reworked the Lemania, unlike any other manufacture employing this movement, including the Roger Dubuis Chrono Monopusher which I own and know well. In terms of decoration, no other can match it either. Of course, it is a matter of preferrence, but, in terms of looks, I also find the 5070 to be much more "contemporary" than the VC, Breguet or RD. This is the analysis I made when I pulled the trigger for my 5070G and I do not regret it. What happened, and I couldn't foresee, is my tendency to pamper and over protect it, to the limit of not wearing it much.
Best,
R
