Why did I buy a Patek Philippe 5650G? If truth be told, I am not a big fan of either the Nautilus or Aquanaut range. I see neither as sports watches. I see them as sporty, but not a sports watch (credit for that distinction goes to Patekova). I would alwa...  

I am also very pleased for you that you found a new Patek to feed your love for the brand. I specially agree on what you said about the necessity for a Patek collector to feed / fill the missing element, the gap. You didn't have one Nautilus or Aquanaut, ...

......that is ignore all other rules if an itch itches too much. I use my rules as a guiding line, rather than strictly, but it does help keep the process under control.

Indeed, for a collector rarity is a point that is hard to resist and I find it utterly honest from you that you brought this aspect as a second thing to say. Advanced Research ... I am still not "happy" that Patek is using silicon springs and has not gone... 

......i think rarity is one of those things that I have never been shy of stating is a factor for me. It adds a certain something..... having said that, rarity in itself is not a decider. It is a necessary but not sufficient factor.

and big, big congrats Joe! I know how much you wanted this one. I find the mechanics of this AR movement very intriguing and that is certainly a trigger to get this watch. Enjoy the new toy CC

You have managed in my opinion to bring out the best views of the 5650G! I do not like the Aquanaut but your photos sell the watch remarkably well!

.....that first picture just has me drooling. I haven't actually worn the watch yet as i need to get the rubber cut properly...that will happen tomorrow. So until then, its just a static shot

Your process of "I hate / I love" is really interesting and truly honest (something I like a lot). From my side, I can't go beyond this large cut in the dial. I don't like it and I can't forget it. I only have a blockage with it. Nothing more. Anyway, the... 

.....i am not a fan of cutaway dials. I have none...other than this one. And, for this one, it is a major factor behind why i like it...the incongruity lets me get past the cutaway and it turns into an advantage rather than a problem. But I totally unders...

Congratulations for your new catch, this is a model I've been very positive about since last Basel and that was much more than the "neutral" reception it got at the beginning would make think. As many novelties that are "unusual" from Patek, it is the kin... 

Lovely photos and amazing and honest write up. Now cut that strap and start enjoying! It is quite easy to do with a pair of scissors. Just go one bit at a time.... or have a watchmaker do it for you. Please wristshots soon! I will have to go take mine out... 

For me, I do appreciate the reasoning behind the cutout, but the placement of the 9 out there on an island by itself, serving time for whatever crime it must committed to be left on Alcatraz, just cannot be unseen. I feel like they used the 5167 aesthetic... 

We have discussed the issue at length but at that time you were still in the regrets phase, regrets for having applied so late that you were thinking you would never get one and you were a bit angry against yourself for not having put your name in the lis...

YES! I love it, I love watches that are unique, looks different and special. This 5650G ticks all my boxes but I'm not important enough to be allocated one 😭 Only to blame myself for being not focused on my watch collecting journey. I should have attended...

......we also evolve thinking over time. I know a really great collector from Munich who told me that just about every collector goes through a 5yr cycle and then a 10yr cycle Somewhere between 10-15 years, they become more fixed!!

This watch is indeed a very nice modern piece of art. However, I wouldn't call it sports watch because it doesn't seem to have a screw down crown and it is not the type of watch you will use while playing golf or mountain biking as you can do it with a w...

Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures and I do agree with your well expressed feelings as a collector. I personally like stainless steel for sporty watches and so far I'm not been crazy about the dial solution adopted for this reference. But it take...

I too never warmed to the Aquanaut, for no particular reason other than it just wasn't checking the boxes. But also like you, the combination of technological advancement, prospective significance, scarcity, and finally incongruity, completely and quickly... 

......each of those facets being a necessary but not sufficient component. The more I think about it, the more it seems obvious that this movement will become central to future production. Why would they not incorporate a patented technology that places t... 

I'm not sure if others agree, but based on my single example, I recommend cutting strap length a "notch" one too few on both sides. Gives you the flexibility to micro-adjust size or wrist position after some time on the wrist, hot / cold expansion / contr... 

.... and now it's fully weaponised. I have done exactly what you did on size. I have left it a notch loose on each side. Test phase.
