My most expensive watches
are my Patek Philippe pieces. Very few people in 25 years of collecting have ever noticed ( or commented) on any of my Patek Philippe material. When I have been wearing Rolex, people tend to notice. I totally agree with the notion that there is no point in owning a watch that I will not wear or that I am afraid of damaging in some way. Of course, I am aware of when I am wearing a really great watch and I take some precautions . This has kept me away from the high-end vintage market. I don’t want to harm a “Museum Piece”.
The bottom line for me is that after a few years, if I am not wearing a watch, I sell it on.
Question to the Patek Grand Complication owners
During pre-COVID times, were you able to wear your Grand Complication to work (assuming office job) and during commute which may involve some street/subway/sidewalk environments? I'm curious because I don't know if these pieces are most often left in the ...
In a wrong place - I don\'t think a grand complication attracts much more risk than any other good timepiece...
most often than not - people might not even recognize them...there are few brands like Rolex, Omega who might suffer this instant recognition from general public imho the watch collectors are still a drop in the ocean.... btw i do wear all my timepieces -...

I wear and enjoy each and every single watch I have ever owned. Absolutely no point in having them and not wearing them. Having said that I have always been very careful not to have certain watches on show and have always been very choosy about what watch...

I have even played golf with a few which some would consider a little dangerous for the watch as they are of higher value. Life is short, enjoy it while we can is my motto 😉 😜

Definitely not at your level but try to enjoy these watches to their fullest extent. I tend to follow a rule for water sports. Min 20m WR - pool 50m - snorkeling 100m - waterski and free diving 200m - scuba Cheers Peter

I think you are mainly using the term "Grand Complication" interchangeably with "expensive" here...so it's very subjective territory, and you are likely to receive a pretty diverse set of answers.
But most important of all in my view, I would *never* buy any watch ("expensive" or not, whatever that means for you individually) if I cannot fully enjoy it... Buying it just to admire it at home or in a bank is, from my perspective, simply not an option...

I wear my Lange Zeitwerk daily and used to wear some of my other $$$ pieces daily too. No issues for me. I rotate between Vancouver and Salt Lake City though and both cities are very very safe. I also don't look very robbable though lol

but, I am also aware, it is not stolen until it is. Wearing anything in public you cannot easily replace or shrug off is probably not a great idea.
