I think this watch suits your name, “unekual”. When it comes to 3970s, a 2d series platinum Is in a category by itself. A GREAT watch!

A huge congratulations on getting this uber rare and beautiful variant. To me, even better than a 1st series, snap back, 2 tone dial yellow. Best, Patekova

New Addition, happily joining the PCC Club with a 3970P !

I'm over the moon to be showing you guys my latest acquisition, earning me a spot in the PCC Club ! The watch is a Second Series 3970 in Platinum, which from my research very very few were made (I believe roughly 10 pieces, possibly a pinch more). Cheers ...
I love this reference

And your specimen is even more special. The leaf hands are a delight. Well done catching this rare bird: was your search a long affair?

Amazing piece and details. I’m not sure the 5004 is an upgrade in this case! Best
Fantastic!

I love the 3970. About 3 years ago, I finally tracked one down in yellow gold that had not been over- polished. I wear it frequently and appreciate the fact that they are manually wound watches. The 3970 is an excellent reference and a gift from Heaven to...
Nice!

Sure it's not a first series? In my recollection only the first series had leaf hands? Thomas
thankyou !

The first series have a snap-on case back, two tone dial and were only made in yellow gold, leaf hands are present on 1st and 2nd series.
Congratulations! Enjoy in good health

Personally find the 3970 one of the most beautiful PCC made, though often overlooked because of the long production. Can you share more about the research on production no.? Would love to know more! BTW what language is the calendar?
Thankyou !!!

Well from going through auction databases I only found 6 ever sold at auction. Through friends I know of 2/3 more in private hands including mine. That would make for a total of approximately 10 pieces known. So if we want to round it up we can say there ...
Nice detail with the date :)

I have little clue about the production number either, but there are many patek collectors and dealers so only PP truly knows!
Production numbers

My personal approach to this: over many models (3970, 5004, 3940, 5050) of the 90s you typically have a ration of 5-10% showing up at auction. Thus, with 6 at auction this would roughly translate into 60-120 made in total (i.e. feuille hand 3970P).
Congratulations.

Spetacular piece. I am lucky to own one too. Loooooong search and research. My sources let me to conclude 7 pieces in existance, but at the end, only PP knows. ...
Incredible !
