Many similarities, but also many differences. Manual wind chrono. 41mm v 42mm. Platinum. Both beautiful. But I would say cousins rather than brothers. I didn't have much opportunity to take pictures of the two together. Both now sharing the same safebox f...
....at 41mm, I thought it would wear quite big given its depth. I have a small wrist, but the shape of teh case cushions the watch superbly. Just 1mm smaller than the 5070, but it feels almost like a 39mm watch. Very very easy to wear.
I think that the differences are enough to make them very complimentary. The enamel dial does make a big difference to how the two watches appear on the wrist. I must check, but I am not sure if this is the only black enamel by Patek ever??? It creates a ...
Patek had/has some other black enamel dials but naturally very limited. Patek often emphasises how special the enamel dials are. However, UN came out with a bunch of watches with enamel dials and that makes me wonder a bit. Best, Kari
.....before i tried yours, I was concerned about the size and how it would wear for me. Once I tried yours one, i became convinced of the watch. I wore my own for two weeks....i couldn't take it off!!
.....with the 5370, this is the first time a chrono has come along that has challenged my thinking. I would find it hard to seperate them, but if i HAD to...uhm.....
and would make me want to build a chronograph collection. There is also a significant interpretation difference on the movements' side. Two parts of Patek's craftmanship and know-how. I'm thinking about many interesting watches to get in the future, WT, c...
But I see them as the two old uncles of the family Everyone loves them but they are hard to get hold of- if you understand my drift Congrats again on a top class collection Julian
You certainly have quickly completed this trio with rapid fire acquisition of 5370P and 5131R. All are amazing watches! I am very curious about something. You are straddling the dual Worlds of vintage and modern Pateks, acquiring some of the absolute best...
Patekova, Thanks for clarifying the black enamel. I just couldn't think of one! You pose an interesting question on vintage versus modern. I suspect that across my collection, I own maybe 20% modern and 80% vintage. Within Rolex, I think i ended with a si...
Thanks for your detailed and very interesting analysis. While emotion enters into your equation, to me it seems to be a laser sharp methodology. First pick the type of watch, e.g. WT or perpetual, then decide what era produced the most appealing (here's w...
....you highlight a not insignificant factor.....price! 2499 would be lovely, for sure, but in a world where I have more projects than i do cash, the 2499 must be ignored! I would say that the area of perpetual chronograph is one where I will focus a lot ...
For me these watches while clearly vintage are fairly large and chunky by vintage standards and thus also fulfill contemporary aesthetics. They are timeless (pun intended.) Also, unlike 2497/2438 which have a modern interpretation in 5396, 3448/3450 stand...
.....yes The 3450 is rarer and with the leap year indicator....but one of the things I love so much about the 3448 is the purity of the dial. I find the leap year indicator a distraction from one of the things I love on this genre. Hence, my love is 3448 ...
....i think i enjoy that 38-40mm range as optimal. In the case of 5070, i agree with you that the case is simply one of the best. It makes the watch. I would also say that the 5070 does not wear "small" for its 42mm either. The 5370 at 41mm does wear "sma...
... and 5070P still looks better to me. If i had to compare them : Dial : IMO Black is too hard of a color, stiff, "inflexible", especially the enamel black which maybe is as deep as a black can be. It doesn't let you "capture" it, contrary to a Matte bla...
Comparing the two is hard. I will evaluate along the same lines as you.... On dial, the blue of the 5070 is spectacular. I agree with you that it is one of teh best blue dials they have ever done. Yet, a pure black enamel is also spectacular. It is as dee...
.... you dragged me to your point of view. Indeed, the black enamel carries something magic and mysterious in the deepness of the black and the texture of the enamel. Even if i like the blue color, we got to admit that its a draw here. As for factor X, to...
....i think it went something along the lines of "old school" British tradition. Blue or grey suit....no alternative but black leather shoes. Brown shoes? European not British. Its the British class system...we invented it to discriminate against people w...
