encouragement

The OP said he was looking for encouragement so I assume that he wants a little nudge to say it's the right move.  As already pointed out the decision is largely one of aesthetics and which appeals most to you personally.  There is no difference in function to compare the virtues of one vs the other, nor is there any real difference in movements IMO.

Essentially you are looking at 2 very classic designs, the 5296 being slightly larger and without the crown protectors.  The 5296 comes in a 'sector' dial as well and as shown in one of the above responses and I'm not sure if that style interests you or strictly the standard 5296R.

If i were trying to make this decision i would ask myself what attracted me to the 5127 that i bought initially, and what has changed to cause me to look elsewhere? Am I just bored with the watch or do i want something a little larger - then I'd say go for it. If on the other hand i just have the itch for something new then my advice is to wait, give it some time to see if the urge passes .  How long have you had your 5127 and how much extra cash are you going part with to make this trade happen?  Are you a 'buy and sell' type of owner or a 'buy and hold'?

There's no objective way for you or anyone else to make this decision- it's purely emotional. Both watches serve the same purpose and do it extremely well.  If it's encouragement you want however, then I'd tell you to make the trade.  The 5296 I think is the more traditional and modern sized version of the classic calatrava.  I tried one on (non sector dial) and thought it was well proportioned and had great wrist presence.  I came very close to buying the 5296R myself but finally decided against it - but not for any reasons relevant to your decision.  You don't need validation for this decision, there is no wrong answer!

Enjoy whichever you ultimately decide,

Sam
