249, to buy or not to buy, I cannot decide and help needed
Jun 04, 2010 - 02:01 PM
Hey all... all these years, I had passed us numerous SEs... none really made a mark (ok value wise, the 203 I passed up as well which I did regret) except for the 249. It looks like up till today, I still want to find a LNIB or MINT COND or BNIB 249. However, several factors are keeping me back:
1. The high premium compared to the original list (at least a double now) 2. The depth rating of 30m 3. The Plexi Glass (making it impractical and fragile to use in real life situation) 4. The relatively simple and light/fragile construction and or less solid fit and finish compared to 2006's SE PAM 232 which is at a better price point.
The above 4 logical factors are keeping me back but I have some reasons for it :
1. The lovely blue hands 2. The unique clean dial
3. Just an urge to own it
So I really can't tell if I should buy one and look for one... should I or should I not. I need help, advises and inputs. The 249 is pretty to some and weird looking to others... On the other hand, while the 317 remains a dream watch to most ristis in the modern era (ok 202a, 21 and 6152 aside... ), the ownership of the 317 is fading on me a bit as the black watch look and the busy dial is getting a bit OTT... you can get overwhelmed after a month or two of wearing.

The price is the only thing right now you need to think about, my friend. Doubled means it is hot no matter it is caused by what reason, however, on the other hand, it originally matters your decision. If you are just purely want to hold this piece withou...
and the only way to know is to buy the PAM249 and see how you feel about it after the novelty period wears off. If you have a friend who has one who can lend it to you for a day, that would be your most ideal situation. Test drive it and you'll know if yo...
Always give in to temptation. What is the worse thing that could happen? Well, i suppose you could pay up teh dough and then find that the watch isnt as good as you had hoped. However, if that turns out to be teh way its not a big problem as the 249 will ...
If you're still thinking after all these years, then it's probably worth your while to 'try' to own it. The worst thing that can happen is the need to sell it and how bad can that be?
With its flaws ( in fact, I see only one, the see through case back ), and its quality ( I see many ). The Plexy is not a problem if you're used to Vintage watches. You care about your watches when you wear them? So you will with the Cali. The price point...
in my life. I always do the same "hairbrain" banal excercise. I ask the salesman to tie it on my wrist, while I have my eyes closed, and then I....look. First glance (like in love) is a powerful "telltale" when you're not sure you like the watch. At the c...
My two favourite pams are the 190 (which I own) and the 249...... I prefer the dial of the 249 but the movement of the 190 is one of the best (IMO) and true to the heritage of Panerai..... I often thought about buying a 249, was close once but bought the ...
Buy the watch!!, You won't regret it. The design of the face is quite unique, and it works well with the radiomir case. My boss,(RL) always compliments me on the look of this piece whenever he sees me wearing it.
But as you said, The lovely blue hands, The unique clean dial and the urge to own it won over the 4 factors. So I bought it anyway. Still haven't got a lot of chance to wear it but I really love it.. Regards, SamRotandi...
As you already mentioned the 3 factors, those are good enough reasons to make your move, don't wait, you will not be regretted, I am very positive. I love mine
