A wonderful and unique watch with same year birth!! That’s really something my friend! You found a Big Jewel!

I think I've told the story before, but it's worth retelling. I first saw Black Connie . . .

. . . on TimeZone about fifteen years ago when it was owned by Phil Cooper [log-in: Hockey].  This is his photo snapped approximately 2005:

I was immediately drawn to it.  There's an ineffable quality to Black Connie that captured my heart.

A few years later, Phil posted a WTB for a Mk II.  I owned one . . .

. . . and offered to trade it for Black Connie.  We discussed the matter over the phone, and agreed they were roughly comparable in value.  It seemed he was amenable at first but then backtracked, saying in effect that while they were on par in terms of market value, his chances of finding another Connie similarly outfitted were nil, while Mk IIs were as plentiful then as they are now.

A year later, Bill Sohne posted Black Connie on this very forum, having made a deal with Phil for the object of my dreams.  I asked Bill if he would let her go, and he agreed.  Paid a princely sum for her, and never looked back.  Every time the subject comes up, Bill reminds me the reason he let her go is that he's color-blind, and consequently can't make out the rose gold dial script against the black engraved dial.

How lucky can a guy get?

;-)

Dear Art: this watch is not only beautifull and unique but also has a great story behind! Perseverance, patience and passion are conditions of a true collector! Cheers! Abel [nt]

So 1950s.  I have a Venus from the same time period with similar indexes.  Thanks for sharing. Hope you get it adjusted to your liking.

Arrowheads are way cool, no doubt about it! . . .

Have been wearing this at home on a strap just in the evenings for the last 10 days.  Recently back from service, it's a special one for me.

. . . would be anyone's pick, Edward.  In Nico's parlance, "sublime".

Yours in Connie-hood,

What a treat

Hi All

What a treat to se all your great Connies,- specially the textured, black dials.

I'm nuts about Connies.
The first vintage watch I bought som 20 years ago (second was a DateJust).
For me the "dog legs" and piepan dials are THE special feature. Nobody does it better.

I vividly remember your first post many years ago . . .

 By: Dr No : March 6th, 2020-10:00
. . . in which you shared a close-up of your black '62.  Not sure how many I've seen since, but it can't be more than the number of balls in play during a game of 3-ball.

Thanks for sharing your Connie collection, Jacob.

Warmest,

Art

Thanks Art,- any time you want to swap your black waffel,- let me know :-)

I'll never be any good at photografing. Probably the most flattering photo I'll ever take;

Regarding Connie quality

 By: winther502 : March 6th, 2020-09:54
Hello All

In addition to my esthetique pleasure regarding Connie's, I'm very happy with the cal. 56x, that ticks so steadily within my 4 samples

Of my 30-odd rotation collection, they are by far the most precise and dependable movements.
Way better then my 5 Rolex watches of the same era (cal. 15xx) .  A joy,- all round smile

Yours
Jacob/Copenhagen
