Horological Meandering

Has anyone considered a high security safe for their valuables?  Because high security safes are so heavy and could be damaging to a normal household floor over time... that could present a challenge.  Perhaps install the heavy safe inside your garage bolted to the concrete floor?  Would have to solve for moisture and temperature changes in a non-climate controlled garage of course.  Also if inside your garage, perhaps placement against a back wall (or creatively hidden) so as to not be easily visible to passersby and neighbors.

Sure banks or similiar solutions also gets more troublesome and expensive nowdays so no easy answer.

Of course keeping a low profile is always smart too.

Also two medium sized safes that are easier to sorta hide and install where you want might be a better option. So you might have to only give up one if that day we dont want to think about comes around the corner.

My preference instead of adding a massive nightmare of a safe is to instead thinking of hiding things in plain sight instead. False wall or cabinet drawers etc.

Something to think about. That and insurance.

Last thing you want is for some thief to run off with your safe and worry about cracking it later. I have both bank and home safes and good luck getting my home safe out of the house or cracking it before police get there. Throw in some firepower that I have hid around the house in smaller safes and you have to worry about dodging bullets while cracking. My guess is that the odds are highly against you.

A “hidden” safe which with a little effort is quite easy to find. This is where you keep a fake Rolex and some costume jewelry to satisfy the morons who broke into your house.

Then you have a truly hidden safe for the real stuff. Safety deposit boxes at the bank are probably the best but takes much of the fun out of collecting.

All the money in the world spent on a safe is worthless if something happens and the insurance company can shirk its responsibility because it wasn't policy compliant. Definitely keep a somewhat low profile, because if someone finds out they might be motivated to rob you, and once someone is in your house pointing something at you you'll be smart to give up the key and codes quickly. Buben & Zörwig make great ones, I like their drawers and cushions the best. In my case the drawers slide right out and go into a nice duffle bag I have. For long trips I go to the bank and put them in the safe deposit box there, the drawers stack in nicely. 

It's as you described - a big, heavy, fireproof gun safe. I don't have it hidden in a corner but I suspect to a thief it might say "he has guns" which is a good thing.

mold can be an ongoing repeat offender nightmare unless you only put divers on bracelets in it (don't forget to screw in the crown every time you visit it to exercise your watches). Also forget about bronze unless you're in love with patina. As far as ultimate security goes you're probably better off if you cover all the bases mentioned here but there can always be a thief that is a step ahead. Think about the flick Gone in Sixty Seconds but the booty is weighed in grams instead of tons (so much easier to succeed with the heist!).

To have a heavy duty safe/storage at home, it would be best if the design can be done when you construct your home. A friend built a reinforced storage hidden behind some feature wall. It needs some planning and design consideration so that it is not obvious to any intruders (hopefully). Another one built into the ground covered by flooring. Quite a lot of work involved.

At least in my country the banks make it clear they do not know (nor want to know) the contents of your safe deposit box

Manufacturers like ISM (Israel), Rosengrens (Swedish), Chubb (British), Kaso (Finnish), Tann (British) Brown (USA),  and AmSec (USA) all make commercial grade containers but the 2,000+ lb delivery weight make them ground level installation only for residential homes.  Therefore it's garage only in my case.  The weight of the safe would destroy sub flooring, stairs, joists, etc.
