So I’m not in the market for a 222,
A little short on funds. I do have however this 1970’s Seiko which has some similarities to the 222 😂. A Seiko logo stamped in the bottom right case would be a nice touch.

I agree with the less cost for service argument....
and I don't own watches with many complications especially perpetual calendar types.
What influences my choices is simply if I like a watch design, and some may be chronographs (although I never use that function) but if I like the design I may buy it. 10 years ago or so I used to like a date on the watch, (a date not the day) since it was handy for writing checks etc but these days I'd probably prefer watches without the date. But basically everything comes down to the watch design. I like it or I don't/
So my tastes have changed over the years as well.
I tend to feel the same way, Thomas.
But I have a manual wind Lemania-based chronograph (VC Cornes de Vache) and I have to say that nothing really beats the beauty of a great chronograph movement. It’s my only “complicated” watch, but I’m glad to have it.

Huge fan of simple, time only watches…
But will enjoy a complication every now and again, even if I will hardly use it (looking at you, chronographs).

My mantra as well but this pulled me back in. If there’s anything i have learned in this hobby..

Watch world has changed
1. Most complications depend on continuous operation of the watch. (Chronograph being a rare exception)
Continuous operation depends on regular attention OR enough winders to service what can be very large watch collections.
2. We may not like to glance at our phones for the time and date, but it is entirely reasonable to consult a phone app for sunrise and subset times, or the tide, or other information that astronomical complications used to provide.
3. Mechanical complications make the watch larger, more delicate, more costly, and add dial clutter.
4. Which leaves complications for their own sake, unless you are an exceptionally dedicated wearer of complications
