Just wondering if anyone else is feeling distinctly “Meh” about SIHH.
I am finding it VERY HARD to get motivated about the offerings.
The Vacheron piece with dual frequencies is quite nifty, but I am just not excited (or even interested) about the rest.

As usual a lot for the very deep pockets, my impression it is even worse this year... (unless some unexpected post will appear)
It seems to be almost impossible anymore to invest in a simple time telling watch with a new movement....
Also a lot of new developments are just copies of copies. The first 3d moon or planet was great but now...
But that's what the market seems to dictate.

the Cartier Prive Tonneau is very nice and the JLC Westminster is marvellous but none of them on my shopping list
but the rest are just code1159....

A mainstream one and a left field one
I liked the Montblanc line with salmon/copper dial, no date. Have to check the movement though
Completely left field and very poetic is the minute repeater tourbillon by Moser without any hands.
The rest indeed is not very inspiring sadly

Ulysse Nardin Freak X is very nice though. A little less of a freak but more wearable than the original one. Price seems realistic too.

The JLC Westminster is breathtaking, the Cartier Privee Dual time quite stunning - both out of my league my some considerable distance! The 15202 and Datograph Perpetual salmon dials look great but after that it’s all much of a much muchness
I wouldn’t go that far, but I see your point.
Lange blew the show away once again, but it was hard to top last years triple split!

You're not alone
Some interesting novelties in six figure territory, nothing too tempting in mere mortal territory. The most compelling accessible release (IMO) are the new IWC Spitfire watches, good size, new movements, well priced... but I can't see myself buying any of them.
One that caught my eye was the Vacheron Overseas Tourb. The peripheral automatic rotor is really cool and something I have not seen [nt]

Breguet had an automatic tourbillon with peripheral rotor several years ago ...
... and as both, the Breguet and the Vacheron, seem to lack any shock protection on either the rotor or the tourbillon itself, I somewhat doubt its practicability.

Absolutely nothing interesting. The moser with no hands is fun to see, and expected something like that from them, but otherwise... nothing.
I don't want to name brands, but it says something when I find the most interesting piece by... (gulp)... Hermes!

Same here...
The only thing that really piqued my interest this year are the IWC pilots, specifically the Spitfire Chronograph. I don't really like the red 'SPITFIRE' text but I understand that this was only on pre-production models and the shipping watches will not have this text on the dial. The only other watch that caught my attention was the AP Chronograph with the F. Piguet movement, but I don't know when/if that watch will ever go into production or if it will be remotely affordable. So 2019 may be like 2018, sit on the sidelines and enjoy the watches I already have 
Definitely feel the same way.
There are several breathtaking pieces that I could never afford.
But in the range of affordability, nothing is really driving my buying passion.
I'd rather just scout around for pieces from prior years that I still like...

They are running out of ideas
I think there are only so many designs and ideas they can come up with to keep the interest without being wacky. It feels like "I've seen this before, next..."
My wallet is safe from SIHH releases this year
unless they show that tropic California dial Panerai but my bet is that it will be revealed some months after SIHH (maybe during Baselworld to try to steal some thunder from that watch fair and its exhibitors).
The watches revealed so far, while technically excellent and very complex (for many of the show highlights) seem to be made for the deep pockets of hedge-fund managers and ME oil sheiks.
JLC Gyro 5 and the VC twin-beat made me feel excited like a kid, but the rest...meh.
Wallet is safe for sure! lol!

Thats something i havent seen or thought about before in a wearable size and it looks great to me. Not very likely i will ever even see or let alone afford one but a man can dream.
Some other fine pieces but not like they can reinvent the wheel every year.

I feel VC did well, and while not a fan of the dials at least AP is trying something new. JLC released some nice watches (love the blue dial moon phase), but all very expensive. Nothing in the price range for mere mortals The Hermes moon phase is absolutely magnificent. As for Lange, a monumental disappointment. Nothing innovating nor anything in a reasonable price range.

I must say that there are a number of pieces to drool over both technologically and artistically. Does seem that there is a blue theme this year. A nice blue at that.
I agree that the pieces that have sent my heart aflutter are for the most part not touchable by us mortals but we must appreciate them for what they are. These kind of watches do make be seriously think about buying lottery tickets on a regular basis. I did get permission from my wife that if I win the lottery I first have to buy her something sparkly and then I can get a watch (also had to agree that the winnings had to be more than that of the watch).
A definite meh from me...
Apart from a few exceptional pieces that allow me to continue to have sweet sweet dreams.
