There were just a few references made with that movement, K . . .

. . . based on a Piguet ébauche, and implemented with an earlier version of Omega's co-axial escapement.  It's a white elephant.

As for current Omegas I find intriguing: titanium Ploprofs . . .

. . . and white gold Trésors . . .

. . . top the list.  Unfortunately, neither are even close to being on the likely list . . . now that I've the limited edition Rail, it's strictly vintage from here on out!

Archaically,

Choosing my first Omega - advice welcome!

Some time ago I entered into a gentleman’s agreement with Nilo - each one of us would get a watch of the brand the other one was moderating. Or put differently, a Montblanc for him, an Omega for me. While Nilo has been very quick in upholding his end of t...

And if not just amongst the three...?

Any others you’d recommend?

Unfortunately...

Sits quite high on my wrist and doesn’t feel comfortable as a result

The re edition??? [nt]

Only tried the Bond version with the Lollipop...

Is the fit very different?

In that case...

I need to locate one to try

Let me recommend some other options my friend!

 By: reintitan : April 27th, 2018-13:02
Rather than the non-LE Railmaster, I highly recommend the 60th Anniversary Railmaster as the reference to get. You won't be sorry. It's got 100% vintage looks but is made with 100% modern materials and methods. Instead of the blue CK2998, I recommend the ...

Thanks for your recommendations, Reintitan!

The limited edition Railmaster has two issues for me. It sits less comfortably on my wrist than the non-limited piece for one and I really do not like the highly polished finish (especially on the bracelet, case doesn’t bother me that much). Will check ou...

The rail master 100% - I think this version flies under the radar because of the trilogy and its nicer IMHO. I think the hands, dial grain, markers and numerals are so much better.

 By: templetowers : April 27th, 2018-13:24
And against the CK2998 and the Race End Timer, well I think the Rail Master has a stronger character, is pure in its design and the case and lugs harmonize and twist together just perfectly..

Thanks a lot for your well argued opinion!

 By: KMII : April 27th, 2018-13:26
The dial is certainly one of the things drawing me to the piece

I would steer clear of the Museum chronograph . . .

 By: Dr No : April 27th, 2018-14:05
. . . not just because it's a niche reference, but the movement is an evolutionary 'dead-end', so to speak. Between the revised Rail and reinterpreted 2998, it's a tie, but the Speedy edges out on intrinsic and residual value. There are, of course, many m...

Thanks Art...

Wondering on the evolutionary dead end? Btw. any modern references you would say are essentially much more interesting? As for vintage, I hear you but that’s a conversation for another day and thread - modern first

There were just a few references made with that movement, K . . .

The WG Tresor is superb!

The Ploprop is cool but simply too large for my wrist. Thanks for the movement explanation, Art!

I'm going to go really out on a limb here...

 By: YpJ : April 27th, 2018-22:39
Perhaps wait until 2019 as I'm thinking Omega will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the 1969 moon landing. Even just from a business/marketing standpoint alone they must have a special Speedy Pro and maybe even a new line of Speedys waiting to be introdu...

Thanks YepJ!

 By: KMII : April 27th, 2018-22:48
I will certainly keep a reserve for that eventuality but cannot keep Nilo waiting for so long And having two Omegas is not exactly sacrilege

It‘ been mentioned already and I agree: the Railmaster 2914 re-edition should be your watch. And…

 By: HSTE : April 28th, 2018-04:46
…if not, then the Speedmaster 2915 re-edition. Cheers, HSTE

The Speedmaster Re-edition is a new suggestion...

Will need to check it out and ponder upon it... Thanks!

For the first Omega ...

Is mandatory to get a Moon Watch. The classic one. Simple, reliable and full of history. Some, the rusty "gang", will try to push you to a vintage one. Don't do. Maintenance can be an issue. Cheers, Nilo ...

Now you’re putting me into a real conundrum...

 By: KMII : April 28th, 2018-07:43
In spite of all its merits, historical significance and still very fair pricing, the Moon Watch simply fails to engage me emotionally. The head says why not but the heart simply does not follow. Now that’s a difficult one...

Been thinking about it...

 By: KMII : April 28th, 2018-11:39
As you know I have given a Speedmaster Professional to my father for a birthday. I will in time get it back I suppose and that particular one will definitely come with the emotional component required

If i

had to choose, i would pick the new Railmaster. All brushed. Beautiful dial. One downside, no micro-adjustment on the clasp. I do not understand Omega. The bracelet is so beautiful but they are cutting corners by not adding a micro-adjustment.

I would probably go for the strap anyway...

 By: KMII : April 28th, 2018-08:51
But interesting point on the micro adjustment

Let’s see if you’re right... ;)

Placed the order this morning, so hope it arrives soon

Definitely a great contender

From a naive observer

 By: MTF : April 29th, 2018-07:38
KMII, I'm not a decorated expert so here is my personal observation with a small collection of Omega watches. The history of Omega is predicated on chronometry for railway control and later with sportive pursuits like diving and space exploration. Not to ...

I believe I can :)

 By: KMII : April 29th, 2018-10:59
Thanks a lot MTF! One more Night of sleeping on it and I will probably decide tomorrow.

Of the three pics, I’ll go for the RM!

 By: Greenwatch : April 30th, 2018-04:42
Now I agree with the above comments - Speedy Moonwatch and 60th anniversary plus the Seamaster 60th should be considered if not now maybe in the near future. These are classic Omega timepieces that should serve you well.

Thanks a lot for your opinion, Greenwatch!

 By: KMII : April 30th, 2018-08:53
Made my choice, ordered and paid for it - all will be revealed soon

Of the list above,

 By: skyeriding : May 1st, 2018-09:39
I'd personally go with the CK2998 in blue. Applied indices and Omega logo, (Correct!!) subsecond markings to 3Hz, and a solid no-nonsense chrono movement. Just that no clear caseback to see the movement...which isn't an issue to many. If you don't need th...

Thanks for your detailed analysis, Skyeriding!

Some very important points there for sure. I have made up my mind now and am eagerly awaiting delivery

A suggestion

 By: stabilizer : May 2nd, 2018-21:14
The new Seamaster 300M is just so cool IMO. A few months away but how about going for one of those?

Will certainly take a look at it...

 By: KMII : May 5th, 2018-09:14
But given that I‘ve already placed an order, it will probably not be the first Thanks for your suggestion!

For the first omega, definitely the Moonwatch

 By: hoseachandra : May 7th, 2018-07:29
Thr CK2998 is pretty close to the Moonwatch, but i think the legibility is rather poor. Silver hands againts white dial and black panda subdials are not the optimal combination. So between the three option i will say the Railmaster. The speedmaster mark i...

Interesting suggestion, Pyi!

 By: KMII : December 6th, 2018-03:20
It became the Railmaster but there will be others in the future for sure

Thanks a lot, Pyi!

I have been very happy with it and there must be the odd thread around with my experiences so far (didn't manage a review just yet). Can highly recommend it!
