Omega Trench watch - advice required please?
Hi all
I was lucky last weekend and picked up this old Omega watch pretty cheaply - and from what I've read, it could be an old WW1 trench watch
Its made in solid silver (has the Standing Bear Swiss hallmark for sterling silver that was used from 1882 till 1934, for any silver over 0.875), this watch is marked in several places 0.935.
Its a 3 piece construction:
1) solid silver bezel and crystal
2) solid silver case and hinged case back
3) also hinged onto the above is a solid silver inner dust cover
It also has 14mm wire lugs
The movement is marked Omega (the old fancy lettering, with swooping M and A), and serial number 5,157,xxx, dating it to 1915-1923.
However, I cant find the caliber number (either on the watch, or from searching the Omega vintage database) - does anyone have any ideas please?
Also, as you can see, the porcelain dial is not marked Omega at all - I'm guessing this is a replacement, as well as the minute hand (it does not shine like the blue steeled hour hand)
The gold "onion" crown is also not marked Omega - was this common back then?
Grateful for any comments, good and bad
Cheers, Paul
