Did Omega really used 904L for the Ploprof 600 ?

That's what i read on the Internet.

I recently bought a PP 600 that was back from a full restoration from Bienne.
Everything but the caliber was changed to new parts.

Including the case.
And I'm wondering if service cases are also in 904L.

Can't Omega confirm that for you?

Or maybe it would be too much weffortrk to chase down through their purchasing dept... Hmm. Does it matter what the case is made of? Cazalea

I wasn't aware Omega had replacement cases! . . .

. . . thanks for sharing this information. I knew they had hands and dials, but not cases. Art

Clarifying question.

So the watch is basically new; case, bezel, hands, crystal etc. Only the movement is from a previously sold watch. So what do we call this watch then? New old stock? Regarding your question; Omega can surely answer that for you. Lovely watch; I’ve always ...

I wonder how records are kept at Omega. Did they void the original case number . . .

. . . and carry the movement number over to the new case? I'll have to ask a contact at Omega. I've no idea how restorations this extensive are handled. Reputedly Watchco SM 300 rebuilds were considered authentic by Omega as they were built with genuine O...

Regarding the Omega 600 Ploprof - The only part that has a serial is the movement the case has no serial.

When you get an extract from the Archives they confirm the production date and where it was sold / country based simply on the mouvement number.

You're right, Bill. Confirmed by photos scanned . . .

. . . on the 'net. Ref 166.077 cases aren't serialized. Impressed, Art

The other issue is that more than 60% of the omega 600 ploprof have had mouvement swaps.

These were true tool watches used by professional divers they did not have time to waits weeks for service so the watchmakers would have a clean serviced unit ready to go.

Another aspect of Ploprof history . . .

. . . I wasn't aware of. Three out of five won't pass an extract request? That's disturbing, to say the least. 😱

You will get the extract because they are still ploprof mouvements originally.

however you may have an older or a new production date that will not correspond to the configuration of the watch. This is where the 60% mismatch arises. So it takes a lot of work and many watches to get the right matching sets of which there are not many...

I asked an Omega boutique manager . . .

. . . regarding watches totally revamped during service. If Omega has all the parts and they're required to bring the watch back to specification, then Omega would notate their records and recognize the watch as authentic. I'd be curious to see the docume...
