Panerai PAM305 Luminor 1950 Submersible “On-The-Wrist” Review by Anthony Tsai © Dec 2009 What is Panerai’s secret sauce? How does a brand that produces watches which all look the same have such a high brand loyality? Why does its clientele keep coming bac...

A Great Review of A Great Panerai!

 By: patrick_y : December 9th, 2009-22:44
Thank you for the great review of this stunning 47 mm Luminor cased Panerai. Your attention to detail and thorough review answered all of my questions and covered all of my thoughts about this fantastic watch! Those are some fantastic photographs! Your ma...

Very nice work, Anthony.

 By: amanico : December 9th, 2009-23:44
The Pam 305 is certainly the nicest Panerai introduced this year, with the Egiziano. I agree with you on this point. You wondered why Panerai didn't use horizontal baton markers at 3 and 9? Look at the 2533... There is no date nor small seconds on the 253...

According to ISO 6425

and the rules in reguards to "Divers" wrist watches ,the small seconds hand should have a luminous tip or tail so you can tell that you watch is still running in total darkness and this makes very good sense to me . Thank you for this review Anthony.... W...

Perfect reasoning for why no baton markers at 3 and 9 o'clock

 By: AnthonyTsai : December 13th, 2009-10:16
Didn't think of that! Hhehe I think many are waiting for the 47mm Egiziano, along with the 47mm 1950 base, and hopefully Panerai will release these long awaited pieces soon. Cheers, Anthony

is getting worst and worst in my case and you aren't helping a bit :0) Thank you very much for this detailed review with some nice vintage and SE pieces inside Best from Croatia Damian

I am SO crazy about this watch!

 By: dxboon : December 10th, 2009-01:05
Can I pull off 47mm? I don't know. After checking it out in the metal I'm starting to waver, and think I can't do it. The dial is spot-on for me in terms of design. It's strong and simple in that special way that only Panerai gets right. Of the current pr...

Definitely an awesome watch. Two friends of mine are already enjoying it and the more they wear it, the more they love it. About the strap, one of them told me exactly the same, it's the most comfortable rubber strap he has ever tried. I think I wouldn't ...

I'm not a Submersible lover but I must admit that I would gladely make an exception for the 305. A great review for a great Panerai. Thanks Ale

Great review.....

 By: Andy : December 10th, 2009-10:12
excellent pics and nice observations of the things that, as a buyer, you want to know. I tried on a 44mm SUB last week and also have to say how comfy the strap is...great job by Panerai. Yours, Andy.

GREAT review..nice work

 By: ocwatching : December 10th, 2009-10:50
Love the photos and the attention to detail. I have to agree with the post above, the baton markers, while very nice, is a bit out of sorts for a Lum. Then again, I am a newbie to the PAM virus. Love the closeups of the P9000 as I could never get those sh...

I love the feel of a 47mm Luminor 1950 case on my wrist

 By: AnthonyTsai : December 13th, 2009-10:20
And if you have the same wrist size as me, you should definitely try on the PAM305. If the PAM305 does feel too large, still try on a non-submersible 47mm because it'll still feel smaller since it won't be as thick. Cheers, Anthony

great report

Nice review of the PAM 305, and of course excellent pictures. I enjoyed reading the thorough and detailed points about this sub. I agree with you that I hope that Panerai considers offering this in 44mm. Thanks again and great job Anthony. Regards, ED-209

Your reviews set the standard Anthony.

Really excellent and well thought out work. I have really warmed to the dial. I tried on a prototype a few months ago and was very satisfied with the watch in person. My only complaint is actually the display back, as I feel it has no business on a dive w...

Thank you very much!!! Really enjoy it.

Very comprehensive and informative review.

I think Panerai is successful in pinpointing what exactly that the public likes about their watches...maybe it's the simple design, or the curves of the case or the shapes they use. Whatever it is, they've managed to hone in on it and keep it consistent s...

Great review Anthony :-)

Love the watch since I got it...a lot of fun in the 305 and I highly recommend it

Maybe the best watch review I've ever read! BRAVO!!!

 By: Larry Seiden : December 11th, 2009-16:14
As a long time Paneristi, I have to say I wasn't quite overwhelmed when I saw the 305 in the metal. It's a nice watch, don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure of the bang for the buck value. And as for the bezel, i found the Blancpain 50 Fathoms to be much b...

I don't know about your Walt Odets refernce :P

However, it does help 1000x more for me when I'm reviewing a watch that I absolutely like and a brand that I am passionate about. Definitely helps with me being able to add more of my personal thoughts and commentary on the subject which I feel makes revi...

Great Review and Fantastic Watch

 By: nycWIS : December 11th, 2009-21:02
I saw the 305 at the NYC boutique when I was in town at the end of October and fell in love with it. But then I strolled over to the MB boutique and got to see the Rieussec chrono. Couldn't purchase both, so since I already have a 268 in the collection, I...

The Montblanc Rieussec is an awesome watch

and I'm glad I had the opportunity to review that watch last year. You made a great choice and I would have done the same since I always prefer diversity of watches whenever I can. Cheers, Anthony

Anthony, nice review.

 By: CaliforniaJed : December 12th, 2009-07:06
From the moment I first strapped on a 305 I have dreamed of owning one. It does seem to have the special sauce that makes it a Panerai to own. I'm not likely to commit to one any time soon, so I hope you get one so I can at least see it every once in a wh...

Totally lucid, explicative, with many facts & figures...... All in all GREAT!!!!

There are very kind words for a long time die-hard Paneristi. It was a lot of work to write the review but fun at the same time. Hope to see you at a future GTG! Cheers, Anthony

Jeez, if I keep visiting this forum, you might get me hooked, Anthony . . .

Now that is what I call a reveiw. This having been said, I still went out an ordered a Rolex Deepsea which has my preference. In the meantime I'm still waiting for my PAM 317 to arrive. Regards, George

Bravo, Anthony!

It was a pleasure to write, and I tried to include as much information, some history, and opinion so even those who aren't familiar with Panerai watches can understand every little aspect of Panerai and the PAM305. When I had Ping (my wife) read my final ...

Great review Anthony.
