Review-Panerai: PuristSPro Panerai Beverly Hills Boutique SIHH 2012 Event: Part 1

Jun 22, 2012,03:39 AM

PuristSPro joins Panerai North American President, Rafael Alvarez, and the Panerai Beverly Hills Boutique staff to host fellow Purists for a viewing of the new SIHH 2012 novelties.  It was great to see familiar faces and also a lot of new folks as well.

We began the evening at the Panerai Beverly Hills Boutique.

A familiar sight to all watch enthusiasts is Panerai Beverly Hills Boutique Director Chad Warrick:

PuristS guests and Rafael Alvarez reviewing the SIHH 2012 Novelties.

Panerai offered a large range of new Radiomir watches for 2012 including the California dialed PAM424 in 47mm with a 3 days power reserve and P.3000 movement.  Another interesting version is the Radiomir SLC PAM425 with the dial combination of bar and dot hour indicators.
We also had a pair of special editions; the Radiomir PAM338 with the California Dial and 3 day power reserve, and the PAM449 with the bar and dot hour indicators.  Each of these utilize the 47mm sized case and the P.3000 movement.

Another pairing is the special edition Radiomir 1940 in steel and rose gold.  These had a wonderful vintage look and includes a domed Plexiglass crystal.

One of my favorite features of the 1940's is the view from the caseback where you can view the Minerva pocket watch movement.  The movement was nicely decorated showing off the large balance wheel.  I'll post detailed pics in a separate post.

And speaking of decorated movements, we have the Radiomir GMT 8 Days Oro Rosso in 45mm.  This Panerai is fitted with the P.2002 movement however this caliber has open worked bridges and barrel which provides a view of the gear train and mainspring.  This type of movement looks great on the Panerai and I hope that they continue with this on future models.

In the Luminor collection Panerai debuted three new ceramic models.  From the watch case in the bottom row from left to right is the Tuttonero, the Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT, and the Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT.

The Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic and the Tuttonero side by side. The caseback has a grey tinted sapphire cyrstal with the P.9001 movement.

The Tuttonero ceramic bracelet with a matte black color coating that matches the ceramic case.  The overall watch was hefty and much heavier than I expected.

Next up is part two as we head over to the Montage Hotel for dinner.

Regards,
ED-209

Hi Sergio, The Radiomir 8 days GMT Oro Rosso 45mm reference number is PAM395. How do you like the looks of the decorated movement? Regards, ED-209 This message has been edited by ED209 on 2012-06-22 04:21:57 ...

I find it very handsom....

I found the "translucent" dial really beautiful...less....the fangs, I can't stand. I was raving about it to Anthony (yesterday). In my opinion a "transition" piece of Panerai between...bold military watches....and jewelery. As I wrote, this model would f...

it will take a bit, for my mind to absorb...the hybrid/transitional...heaviness of the case on a Radiomir. Live it looks better than in the pictures, IMO. Nothing wrong with the Minerva's "guts" of course..:-) Ciao - Sergio

Great report, Ed!

Hi Ken, Wish you could have joined us for this fun event. The California dial is a combination of Roman (upper half fo the dial) and arabic numerals (lower half) for the hour indices. I like the 337/338 and particularly the 336/378 in rose gold. The 42mm ...

The event wasn't just a great time, but it provided the motivation to rejoin the Paneristi. I stopped by the boutique earlier today and picked up a piece I have had my eye on for a while now: A PAM 337. Sorry about the quality of this photo. It is just a ...

Hey, big congrats on the new PAM!

Thanks Ed

 By: rovermark : June 24th, 2012-01:14
While I have always liked Panerai I find that many of their models are just too large for my taste which I why I ended up selling my PAM 219. While I loved the design of it, I didn't love it when it was on my wrist. At 42mm the 337 is right in my preferre...

Congrats!

 By: patrick_y : June 22nd, 2012-18:55
I knew you were going to do this! I just knew it. You mentioned it with so much veracity, yet casual-ness last night as we were all departing that you wanted such a 42mm dressier Panerai watch. Congratulations my friend! Good to see you again last night! ...

Thanks Patrick

 By: rovermark : June 24th, 2012-01:34
It was good seeing you. I'm always glad that you are able to make it down from the bay area for events. Yeah, when we were talking I was pretty sure that I was going to do it. I have been interested in the 337 since it was introduced but just hadn't pulle...

I think If I drove it a bit differently...

 By: rovermark : June 25th, 2012-11:51
I might be getting a little bit better milage, but I really do love the acceleration so I tend to be a bit heavy on the accelerator. Of course by better milage I am referring to 9 MPG.......

LOL!

 By: ocwatching : June 25th, 2012-09:38
love it..yeah but THAT instant gratification is just too good to give up...despite the MPG

Congratulations, my friend!

Cool small Radiomir. Bravo! Nicolas

Thanks Nicolas

 By: rovermark : June 24th, 2012-01:35
The only pitty is that it doesn't have a JLC movement : )

major congrats

you sure act fast, lol enjoy in the best of health i might follow on your footsteps soon just need to contact chad first

Thanks!

 By: rovermark : June 24th, 2012-01:37
As I mentioned in my reply to Patrick, I didn't have much of a choice. I knew I wanted one and it is almost always easier to acquire one before they are completely discontinued. What are you thinking of getting?

Fantastic pickup!

 By: ocwatching : June 23rd, 2012-06:04
Looks great on you Mark! Hope to see you sooner rather than later!

Thanks Phil

 By: rovermark : June 24th, 2012-01:44
I have to admit that the new 42mm Luminors also caught my eye, but In the end the 337 was the right choice for me. When they do a 42mm Luminor with a manual wind movement I may be in trouble.....

Awesome!

 By: DRMW : June 23rd, 2012-10:13
Congrats on the Panerai! -MW

Nice review and party. How heavy is the 438?

cheers PAt

I had a different impression of the weight of the PAM438

 By: ED209 : June 25th, 2012-21:13
Hi Patrick, It's odd, I have a different thought about the PAM438 than what Anthony had posted. I thought the 438 was quite heavy, similar to a all steel Breitling Bentley. So to me it felt much heftier than I expected. I personally prefer the look of the...
