And I do know for a fact that size is a matter of perception. Amazing how I’ve perceived 47mm Rads and Luminors to be adequate for my small wrists back then…and how 40mm vintage subs were deemed “odd” and “too small”. But the last decade has shed light and shown me a different perspective…when the watch world caught onto the craze of vintage watches in the 35-40mm range…and then watch brands spun numerous homages and copies of these vintage references. In a separate universe independent watchmakers also began to focus on both function and form, creating watches that were sized to wrap around our wrists in the most ergonomic of ways. And then after all that time has passed, it seemed as though watch collectors of our world today have found themselves in that Goldilocks situation with watch sizing, where the new normal now seems to be in a 37-40mm range. But what do I know? Everything changes with time and space, and only tonight am I waxing lyrical on a brand, a first love, that I’ve established my passion for watch collecting on. Those Paneristi years, long gone, but never forgotten. Forza, Panerai.
