Does it really need to be recognizable as a Panerai?

Dec 12, 2012,18:44 PM

If a new case debuts anytime in the near future, I actually wish the case is unrecognizable Panerai at first glance.  Why?  Because I want something different and new.  I want a new case which has its own identity so my collection can diversify.  I don't want a combination of a Luminor and Radiomir or a mutation of a Luminor or a Radiomir.  I want something brand new so my passion for Panerai doesn't subside.

Give me something new and not something that was made in the past or a reiteration of a past case whether larger or smaller in size.  That's what I want to see happen.  I want this new case to be unrecognizable Panerai at first but then afterwards, recognizable as Panerai as the case becomes "accepted" within the Panerai collector community after the outrage it will receive at initial launch smile

Cheers,
Anthony

In my prior thread where I asked whether or not you would like to see a new Panerai case

thread here: panerai.watchprosite.com If Panerai were to introduce a new case, would you want some type of Panerai crown protector w/ this new case? Yea or nay? Cheers, Anthony...

Sure, but not necessary

If anything, I'd like to see a new case with the crown perhaps positioned away from the center of the wrist. Or perhaps more subtile crown protection would be cool. (In the vein of Bremont's Supermarine, for instance.)

No! Definitely not.

A new case should be an elegant, dressy one, which should not have a crown protector, of course! Best, Nicolas

No, C.P. :-) [nt]

2 possible directions?

 By: brett_nyc : December 11th, 2012-08:00
I could see 2 potential directions for new case shapes. The first would be a fresh look at the roots of Panerai. Diving. I'd be curious to see what an ultimate diving watch, imagined by Panerai would be. The subs, and Egi stand as historical signposts, bu...

Yes or No. But it needs to be immediately recognizable as Panerai

Two main objectives with the new case: 1. Recognizable as Panerai 2. Some tribute or similarity to a historical Panerai timepiece. I was thinking of a smaller Mare Nostrum style case a few days ago. But I feared this wouldn't be recognizable immediately. ...

Hmm... That could work...

I was really starting to like the idea of a normally sized Mare Nostrum but you want something entirely different. The main thing is it has to be long-term, tasteful, and elegant. For instance, the Cartier Ballon Bleu is a questionable creation, will this...

Yup. No pain no gain! [nt]

new everything, but...

sure i'd love to see a new case - something completely different, but realistically, how much could they deviate without losing too much of their identity? Of course they could make somethng totally radical that no one else has done, which would make it i...

You pose very good questions

 By: AnthonyTsai : December 14th, 2012-16:46
I don't know the answers but it's something Panerai should ask themselves. If they paid me the big bucks to think of the answers to your questions, I'd come up with something specific. But since I'm just a regular Joe Schmoe, I'm just talking in generalit...
