You surely are a poet of Horology my dear friend!
And I enjoy so much reading your prose.

Un abrazo afectuoso, Abel.

A view on the Vintage JLC Triple Date Reference 2721.

 By: amanico : January 8th, 2013-00:00
With or without moonphase, the Triple date, made between the mid 40ies to the Mid Fifties, is certainly to be classified among the most beautiful Vintage JLCs. Better than beautiful, I would say " refined ". Let's focus here on the Triple Date. An extract...

One thing that struck me...was the finishing of the movement anglages. Very good. Never knew they did this so well 60 years ago.

They did it also, and before, on some pocket watch movements.

 By: amanico : January 8th, 2013-08:05
And to say all, I would love to see that level of finish on modern movements, too! Best, Nicolas

Jaeger-LeCoultre's elegance

 By: Dje : January 8th, 2013-01:21
Hi Nicolas, Thank you for sharing your black beauty! You know my love for the tear drop lugs triple calendar watches made by Jaeger-LeCoultre in the 40s and 50s (I have nothing against the close related cousins from Vacheron Constantin either). This desi...

It was time to share it, as t is almost two years that I got it. ;)

Exquisite watch, superb movement, impressive dial.... The moonphase, too is superb. Maybe we'll get one, one day! Best, and thanks for viewing, my friend. Nicolas.

The relationship to V-C calendar watches...

is something that interests me as well. As far as I recall they used the same base calibre - but did they also share the same complication plate? Thanks for any insight! Magnus

So would I!

 By: Dje : January 10th, 2013-02:03
Hi Magnus, I'd love to know too, but I have no idea! If I ever get hired by one of the two companies..... :-) Best Dje

No idea

 By: Dje : January 10th, 2013-05:03
Hi, If I remember well they don't have the same bridge architecture, even if they are apparently based on the same plate. I have no idea if: JLC did it all. JLC furnished all rough parts and VC finished and assembled them. JLC furnished the base plate and...

Suprisingly, we don't mention this reference very often.

 By: amanico : January 8th, 2013-08:12
Which is not fair nor normal. A renewed pleasure to see one, my dear Abel. Thanks for your input. Un fuerte abrazo. Nicolas

This is what I like from the vintage world...

By: Mark in Paris : January 8th, 2013-08:29
Their character and originality, the production we remind of are not copy/paste from a brand to the other. I'm also very happy to read about it as I own one from my familly and didn't know much about it. Your collection seems to show hidden pieces of inte...

Cherish it, Mark. This is a great watch, which may deserve a good service.

 By: amanico : January 8th, 2013-08:41
Not the dial, but the hands, maybe, and the movement, for sure. Still have some pieces to unveil, but it was time to reveal this one. ;) Best, Mark. Nicolas

A chic watch. The tear drop lugs carries a sculptural effect to the case. Thanks for posting. Cheers, Nilo

My favorite vintage JLC by far...

...took a long time to track down this particular variation but I did with a the help of a JLC expert. The modern Master Date (no moonphase) was the first mechanical watch I ever bought for myself, so this vintage compadre has completed the circle. ...

Hi Nicolas, thanks for this very attractive presentation. You're right, this model is indeed a must amongst vintage JLCs : I regularly wear mine with inextenguishable pleasure and would love to find a black version like yours... I recently read (but canno...

Zaf may be the one who wrote that.

 By: amanico : January 8th, 2013-13:16
Thanks, Karmin, for your kind words. Yes, the black is spectacular, but every Triple Date from this period is a must have. Such like yours. Best, my friend. Nicolas

Very nice version with the long index

A limited batch of the Triple Date with Moonphase was indeed released in the early 80s. The reference is 141.008.1 I always though that the case was the same as the vintage model, except for the engravings. Based on their serial numbers, the movements wer...

Your black triple date is breathtaking

What a beautiful watch! I already told you how much I like this version of the Triple Date. The 2721 is a very nice reference (I though this watch was also referenced as 2904), but your black version is breathtaking, especially in such an pristine conditi...

It took me some time to find one in good condition...

 By: amanico : January 8th, 2013-13:31
And now, it also has the good hands... So, my pleasure is entire. ;) Thanks, Marv. Best, Nicolas

Sublime Nicolas, that's one word to describe this.....

jewel. It looks great on your wrist too, as for the hands I love the one on your watch even if there is a shadow of a doubt in your mind. Thank you for the great pictures and instructive post. Cheers, Francois

It is more than a shadow of a doubt, in my mind,

Hmmm .. these TD's are special !! What a lovely post: Truly enjoyed your review and your great pics ( the ones without the plexy and the close-ups are awesome..) . Really a wonderful piece with all the ingredients of a so desirable vintage,a true example ...

They are all magnificient, my dear HS. And I start to understand those of us who collect

These JLC Triple dates, as the dials make them look very different. And equally appealing, such as yours. All the very best, my friend. Nicolas

To me there is vintage and VINTAGE...

 By: moc : January 11th, 2013-01:58
and this belongs to the latter.... Teardrop lugs, sublime layout, elegance of a king, killer colour combination, movement finished like it should, overflowing charm......Nico one question:of all the tribute that JLC are releasing, cant you push your buttons and...

It is a long time that JLC has one Triple Calendar in the catalog.

 By: amanico : January 11th, 2013-04:33
With, or without moonphase, my friend. So, I doubt they imagine adding such a Tribute in the family. Unless they create a new manual movement... Best, Nicolas

True but...

 By: moc : January 11th, 2013-10:15
there was already an alarm in production and they released a TTpolaris, there was already a diver and they delivered a TT Deep sea, so they have a triple calendar and.....as you said a manual movement with exquisite finish.......That would be great. Mo

Great watch Nicolas

And write up. Love the black dial on that one!

That is an impressive combination. But the silver dials are top class, too.

 By: amanico : January 11th, 2013-21:43
I know whzere is one silver dial in the 35 mm case. If I find the time, I will try to go and take some photos. These are superb watches. Best, Nicolas

JLC TRIPLE DATE

 By: sueno213 : January 11th, 2013-17:07
This is my JLC triple date moon phase. I bought it from South Africa, at first, I thought it was rather small, 35mm without crown, but I fell in Love, what can I say ...

Interesting indeed, the more this watch looks at me....

 By: Sandgroper : January 14th, 2013-11:58
the more I like it.!?? Vintage watches look at you and call you, then, as you know my friend, they swallow you and you fly! A plus mon Ami! Ton ami Francois

They eat my brain a bit too much, too. ;)

 By: amanico : January 14th, 2013-12:05
See you soon! Amicalement Votre. Nicolas

Eating your brain they should not! Beautiful, watches or..

time pieces, beautiful painting or pieces of engineering, beautiful jewellery, engravings, hand writings, knowledge of how to portray and sublime beauty, indeed fills the brain never drains it nor eats it. Having exquisite tastes makes the filling harder....

The obsession eats my brain.

 By: amanico : January 14th, 2013-13:46
I still have to find 4 or 5 Vintage JLCs to officially end the hunt.... And dman, they are hard to find! Best, my friend. Nicolas

These Triple dates are true gems

 By: Clavi : January 16th, 2013-04:05
The Triple Date / Triple Date Moonphase (Aka Calendar), and more generally the Teardrop family is what I consider to be vintage Jaeger LeCoultre most refined watches. Not only are they extremely elegant and detailed, but, as you rightly pointed, the level...

I was fearing those pictures, Clavi.

 By: amanico : January 16th, 2013-04:23
;) Better than words, they perfectly illsutrate the richness of the past production, and the appeal of these Triple Dates. Candy for the eyes, food for the brain, joy for the heart. Best, Nicolas
