Plain-ness and austerity at the first (distant) look
But with my glasses on, many intersting details can be seen:
- the texture of the comparatively thick dial,
- the case shape/profile combined with the aggressive horns,
- the brushed middle case band,
- indeces whose surface is actually "fluted", or guilloche (as opposed to polished) - makes a nice rainbow effect in some light conditions,
- and finally, the movement.
It is actually quite practical when travelling thanks to the easy skipping of the hour hand in one hour increments, it just does not show the hometime.

PS: The only detail of this watch I cannot accept (so far) are the lugs polished over all surfaces; the sides should have been brushed like the case imho.

Absolutely. I would say don't buy anything unless you love it. And this also a game of individual tastes. This may be my favorite geophysics offering.
But the universal time is close. This plain dead second reminds me of Nomos, which I love, and the Nomos are prettier.
I can understand that. Still, the Cal 770 is dign of interest. You will tell me that we have at 99, 9% the same movement in the U.T...

Nico, I do believe austere is "le mot juste" in describing this watch. You know I have thought much about this watch, especially until I found my steel tt geo 1958 several months ago...
The steel true second looks much better in person, but I was never able to commit to a purchase. I remain hopeful that JLC will be able to evolve this watch into something more and better in the near future. M

I like the Geophysic TS. A bit plain. A bit too thick (by 1-2 mm, which would make a huge difference in wearing comfort). And the date: not my preference. But overall a cool watch--like a scientific instrument in a way with its seconde morte complication,...
it is a very nice watch but the minor drawbacks for me are a only 40hours of power reserve and no bidirectionnal winding
Also no sweep second like on other automatics and no screw down crown. If it was fitted with an imporved cal 889 and 100 hour power reserve then I would have gone for it.

I don't think that this new family devalues the historical name, or the historical model. The original E 168 Geophysic has its own life. You gave me a good idea I will use when I am back home, though, about the original model. THANK YOU. Best, Nicolas
