A wonderful achievement; well earned and well won. What is impressive is that a number of firms actually took part. I have to applaud all who took part in the competition for their willingness in having their watches timed and measured against each other....  

I was able to see it at the Manufacture during my last trip, and yes, you're right, this movement won a prize at a Chronometry Contest; too. Which is important to say, ad you did it, is that I was surprised to not see some reputable manufactures attending... 

Hi Andrew, Interesting insights on both on the 'old' movement and the (perhaps) 'over-engineered' new movement. But than does it matter? Both look and perform awesome! In any way a big hands together for JLC! Great that they took up the challenge, compete... 

.... and congratulations to everyone brave enough to even enter this. A 'return to the Observatory Trials' is long overdue. It will be fascinating to see the results as the range of entrants is eclectic. Velociphile

I believe he was the winner of the "independents" category, so not competing with JLC et al. A

I saw some of the JLC Team this afternoon, and they were very happy. And proud, too. Now, it is time to launch a(nother) Chronometric piece! ))

Entering into the contest with two watches and winning first and second prize, what could one want more? My Congratulations to JLC! However it would be interesting to know why there were so few participants. A lot of big names is missing on the list. Best... 

What would have people thought if ETA had won the Contest??? Would a big name stand it? JLC and some other big names played the game, took the risk, and have to be congratulated for that, IMO. Best, Nicolas

Not at all that JLC did win, but that it was done with tourbillons (after all comments for the last years that it is just an esthetic thing for a wristwatch . It would be ideed nice to see the results in a historical context. Congratulations to JLC again,... 

Will try to post one this month... As for the Winning tourbillons, it doesn't surprise me that much, as I spoke with the watchmakers at JLC and they didn tell me that thet were very confident with these 2 calibers. They were right... Best, Dirk. Nicolas

This contest make a NO anwer, for tourbillon is just a complication without any racional or mechanical value, and just for make a lot of number for the pricetag Congrats for the Manufacture !

and say that JLC's victory is at best a hollow one. As a competition that calls itself 'International' yet deliberately leaves out other watchmaking countries such as Germany and Japan (or even America and China) has no credibility IMO. Sorry, I find this... 

Why the German or asian brands didn't want to attend, I don't know... But their absence don't " waste " the merit of the brands which decided to attend. There was a big risk to see a brand like ETA winning against more sophisticated and more expensive mov... 

Sorry, but that is incorrect. Check the rules for the Chronometrie 2009 competition (it is on their website) and you will see the list of countries eligible to attend. Notable countries excluded are Germany, Japan, US and China. This I've copied and paste... 

Germany was able to play..;" Allemagne " in French, and they are on the list you quoted. So they were free to attend. Actually, those who attended are far from being " faire valoir "... So, even if I would have preferred to see all the watchmakers attendi... 

I always knew that skipping French at school would eventually catch up to me. Still, I find it disturbing that as an 'international' competition, it actually lists certain countries rather than having it open to all. I still am disappointed the fact that ... 

The Germans didn't do, neither big Swiss Names... That's a fact. As for your French, I can assure you that my English is not that good... so, no problem! Best, Nicolas

Which is weird, because they are very important companies, which have a Tradition in Chronometry... But also Breguet, Blancpain, Lange, and so on... Best, Nicolas

... We were jst talking with some friends that ran into a MR platine. They are not fans of JLC, but we were saying how impressive the watch is ( there was also a extreme Lab, but i think they are saying this to piss me oof .. ) Btw, which tourbillon is it... 

The great thing here is that we often complain about Marketting, here, and there. But when a brand ( and in this case, not only JLC ) dares to compete with others, there is no marketting, only risks. Risks to be beaten by others. JLC won, and demonstrated...
