Most brands have low production "halo" products designed to create "buzz" for their mainstream products. In the watch industry, it seems that many watch brands believe that a halo product must be an extremely expensive product with a precious metal case and complicated movement. However, this makes no sense to me as most watch enthusiasts cannot afford these watches and really don't pay much attention to them. If I were in charge of JLC, I would make sure that the catalog always included a few reasonably priced watches designed to appeal more to enthusiasts than the general public. While the watches themselves might not generate large profits, the buzz created by these products would be free advertising and would enhance the brand's overall image. JLC's back catalog has numerous examples of well-loved classics like the GTS or GUT that could serve this purpose if resurrected.
