I don't enjoy the constant frenetic energy around new watches. It's too much. The marketing is too much. The salivating is too much. The prices are too much as well. It's much nicer to wait 2-3 years for the noise to die down, so you can be sure that the choice is more yours and less to do with blind lust and peer/media/marketing influence.
In contrast, watches from 10, 20 or more years ago can be found quietly and sometimes at stunning discounts because they've fallen out of the limelight. There's also the enjoyable task of uncovering their history. The effort is rewarding even if the picture remains incomplete - that element of mystery is something to savour all by itself.
