i salute your ethos!
And wish you all the best at the auction. I try to stay away from them these days as the prices achieved have been illogically high. Saying that the Montblanc monopusher chronograph is a very under rated watch and I just sold one to a friend of mine last Friday - the stainless steel one with a blue dial which I had bought by mistake at an auction last year.
Watches may be our passion but I always tell sales people, if it is not meant to be, then it is not meant to be. There are many watches out there and I would not fret if I miss out on anything. And in the larger picture of life, there are always more important things irrespective of how passionate we may be about any one thing.
Christiaan Van der Klaauw is arguably the best when it comes to astronomical watches. I has the privilege of speaking to him and his team at Basel years ago and was terribly impressed with what his watches can do. The accuracy of his moonphase for example is quite astounding. My only qualm would be that his watches start at 40mm which for me is too large.
