Dad's paternal grandfather . . .

May 06, 2020,14:01 PM

. . . was a watchmaker (and seller) in the Ottoman Empire.  Dad's father - my grandfather - was too young to learn the trade when his father died.

So, in a sense, the Dornblüth's father-and-son heritage is personally aspirational . . . even though I definitely don't have the abilities required of any watchmaker.

. . . at the beginning. My admiration for watches made by Dirk Dornblüth and his father, Dieter, formed early in my collecting years. Partly for their aesthetics, partly for their hewing to traditional crafting, partly for their insistence on retaining th...

I hear you,

as someone whose father not so long ago told him that he's "never been the son he wanted," I can certainly empathize. It's truly heartening to see two generations working together as successfully as Dornblüth père and fils appear to. And I understand the ...

Dad and yours truly could've been the poster . . .

The end result is unbelievable. I've long admired Dornbluth but I've never seen one more handsome than yours. Please send us booty shots when you have a moment.🙏

I remembered your previous post

www.watchprosite.com Along with impressive results, it also appears it came quite quickly. The best of both worlds.

You're on target regarding the amount of time . . .

 By: Dr No : May 6th, 2020-12:45
. . . it took Dornblüth to deliver. I wasn't expecting it until later this year. The whole shebang took just four months; Jocke once wrote the average wait time was about nine. Art

How could one ever part with a watch . . .

Nice watch, Art.

A somewhat somber reflection, but it's good to reflect.

Thanks, M . . .

I came close to ordering a Dornblüth 04.0 . . .

 By: Dr No : May 6th, 2020-13:46
. . . when they were in production some fourteen years ago, but ended tying up all available funds into a GO Senator perpetual. That move ended up being the single greatest regret of my collecting experience. Art

Great sentiment Art...

Always great when a watch is more than just a object on the wrist. A big plus when it tells a story imho , especially a story like yours 🙏🏻

The story behind it gives this watch intrinsic value. I’ve long admired Dormbluth, and this really is a nice watch. I remember reading about you working with them on customising this dial combination, and I’ll say I really like it. Somber, yet the blue ha...

. . . took some time and effort, Richard. I was initially drawn to a standard black dial configuration, but then blued hands - Dornblüth's métier - wouldn't have been legible. A silvered dial would have lent a larger appearance, so that choice was out. Gr...

I missed your post back in December, just read it now thanks to the link. Pretty amazing step to send you actual samples, that’s the only way to be certain of the colours you chose between. I have to say the picture you posted, the watch looks really grea...
