That certainly makes sense- he has every reason to show off his finishing, which is superb

Just my personal preference to have the equally beautiful dial. Would also be interested to see if the master plans to offer more complications again down the road.

Thank you for sharing it

two amazing pieces

 By: ambel : March 20th, 2019-09:09
Mentioned the same a few hours ago to some friends Rolex - yawn Patek - ok Tudor - bwa The tow pieces of Baselworld for me at the moment: 1) Kari 2) Hajime asoaka - love this version of the Tsunami alex

Hahahah

 By: Gelato Monster : March 20th, 2019-16:11
I like the Tudor also

Thank you Vitalsigns

 By: Gelato Monster : March 20th, 2019-16:12
I think Patek is the best Bigboys of 2019.

Love the Hajime Asaoka

 By: sham1 : March 20th, 2019-09:46
but a Voutilainen without a dial seems not quite right. Sublime movement nevertheless.

Thank you Sham1

 By: Gelato Monster : March 20th, 2019-16:14
I didn't thought of it in the beginning. Perhaps I was so hypnotized by the movement. But you are right, KV identity/dial is missing. It could have been mistaken as GF for instance?.

Or even a Moritz Grossmann backpage! :-)

 By: sham1 : March 20th, 2019-20:22
Brands like Voutilainen and RW Smith have glorious dials so this latest watch from Kari and Roger's open dial watch seem to be missing an important element - almost their brand identity.

Very true

 By: tick28800 : March 20th, 2019-10:08
We are used to KV producing spectacular pieces. This is of course no exception but in my personal view of KV's work, the dial is an important piece of art. And removing it for me subtracts to the whole thing. The movement can also be usually seen from the...

I understand

 By: Gelato Monster : March 20th, 2019-16:16
I agree something is missing. Nonetheless I am hypnotized by it.

Agree with Tick

 By: KonaJ : March 20th, 2019-10:39
I should be receiving my first KV in a month or so and one of the main reasons for my purchase was Kari’s spectacular dial.

Congratulations JKE67425

Looking forward to you sharing your KV dial design with us.

Love the Asaoka.

Extra large balance wheel in the back is amazing

Thank you thegrailwatch

 By: Gelato Monster : March 20th, 2019-16:18
I like Asaoka a lot too

Gorgeous kv

 By: keks : March 20th, 2019-11:04
The HA I would have to see one day... love the dial execution from what I can gather from picture!

Thank you Keks

 By: Gelato Monster : March 20th, 2019-16:20
If you like dial execution, IMHO KV is still exquisitely above HA, yet HA is beautiful clean in different way.

Agree

 By: keks : March 23rd, 2019-02:13
The KV is simply spectacular... very special piece and even if I love his more traditional dials this one is just superb !

Agree with you 😱

 By: Watchonthewrists : March 20th, 2019-13:00
These two are amazing , still would love to have a KV dail on the watch . The HA is drop dead gorgeous imho. Looking forward to see them in person soon .

Thank you Watchonthewrist [nt]

Yes I can't stop looking at the KV

Loving the dial of ...

the Tsunami! I like the Kari but it deviates from what Kari does best.

Thank you Seehoo

 By: Gelato Monster : March 20th, 2019-17:46
it is so serene the tsunami. I like it alot.

I love the Hajime!

 By: Spencer Karrington : March 20th, 2019-18:48
I have actually had a love hate relationship with Hajime's watches but this is a winner for me. Love the subtle deviations of brown in the outer ring and the art deco element in his watch. The Kari is not my favorite. I understand why he did it but I love...

Are the HA pieces better finished than KV?

 By: cory : March 21st, 2019-10:40
I love both of these pieces so much.

I think KV dial is better [nt]

Complicated

 By: Spencer Karrington : March 22nd, 2019-09:30
From my understanding, it is very different. Kari's dial are better but in-terms of movement finish, I believe that they have very different styles which is one of the reasons I have a love-hate relationship with Hajime. His watches have a very sterile/Ja...

No message body

I meant KV

 By: Gelato Monster : March 21st, 2019-16:26
Is very capable yet IMHO still one step behind GF

Agreed!

 By: Spencer Karrington : March 22nd, 2019-09:26
He is definitely on par with Greubal and Forsey but is more cheaper/smaller wrist so double win for me

Agreed with others that a Kari V without the dial feels somewhat incomplete

 By: kykw : March 20th, 2019-20:05
Legibility of the open dial would be another issue for me. Top notch finishing for sure. Ken

That certainly makes sense- he has every reason to show off his finishing, which is superb

KV interesting and the reverse doesnt make sense

but here, at least for me it does not work. There are other independent watchmakers out there that can do that kind of job better than KV. A matter of an too clever client who absolutely wanted to have something that others haven't? I am sad seeing Kari e...

Those early KV is beyond amazing

Yep, totally agree

 By: Spencer Karrington : March 22nd, 2019-09:33
I also like how, in the minute repeater, he had a little bit of dial around the edges but still showed the skeleton. he is such a master of dials that it seems almost a waste for him to NOT have a dial :p

different if it is on a watch that bears hvis name. The history of watch making abound with examples of watch manufactures that have produced other things than just watches, whether it be needles, technical components of some sort. It is all part and parc...

As a voutilainen owner i find that detracting

From a core competency or value proposition i.e. making beautiful hand crafted watches by branching out into common commercial enterprises detracts from the core value. Yes he owns a distinct from the atelier but do i want to see kari voutilainen snow gl...

thank you for the added information on that piece.

I have to agree with you my friend

 By: Mike H : March 30th, 2019-14:56
Not that it looks bad, but I miss the KV DNA and that is I believe a key point to always bear in mind for a Creator. Making a piece unique is fine, but it should remain a KV before anything else. Thanks for your input my friend.

i would like to nuance my last comments...

having now seen many other pictures of the Voutilainens new watch. i should have restrained from judging a watch on the base of one single picture. Voutilainens latest skeleton watch has, i must say, some wonderful sides to it, the back side being imho mo...

KV. is spectacular

Love it.

Voutilainen's hands and lugs always put me off...

 By: Poktori : March 27th, 2019-22:16
So I'd put my money towards a Hajime Asaoka.
