Watch world has changed

 

1. Most complications depend on continuous operation of the watch. (Chronograph being a rare exception)

Continuous operation depends on regular attention OR enough winders to service what can be very large watch collections.

2. We may not like to glance at our phones for the time and date, but it is entirely reasonable to consult a phone app for sunrise and subset times, or the tide, or other information that astronomical complications used to provide.

3. Mechanical complications make the watch larger, more delicate, more costly, and add dial clutter.

4. Which leaves complications for their own sake, unless you are an exceptionally dedicated wearer of complications
