same story Quan, yet different
but i can't afford grand complications, so my taste eventually gravitated towards time-date only watches.
Here's my story:
1) lost my favourite quartz mickey mouse watch given to me by my uncle at 7 for X-mas. My first heartbreak
2) Coveted G shocks, and got one. "Best friend" and neighbour stole it and wore it to school, and i punch him but never got my watch back. 2nd big heartbreak. Year when JLC started advertising on primetime news:" Time by JLC..." and they showed the reverso. Got laughed at by my momma for pronouncing the name in english, and deep embarrassment led to deep desire.
3) Dad bought me an automatic Seiko and I smashed it when i slipped and fell. Watch crystal cracked and phew, another heartbreak.
4) Decided to get a tougher watch. Loved green, dad got me a green seiko which is still ticking after 10 years. Wore it through the rigours of military service. First love affair---which led to something big
5) Worked during holidays and boss told me my sales figures not good. Showed me a tag heuer aquaracer and i said, f*** this dude, i will ice him. 1st strong motivation in life
6) Got a Zenith. 1st big ticket watch. 1st watch I flaunted but learnt that flaunting is bad. Thierry Nataf kind of flaunt is disgusting. 1st non-living item that changed my philosophy and way of living.
7) Needed rough wear watch, got a speedy for my birthday. Gf was nice
8)Got a Grande Reserve. Now i can show momma who's boss. Pronouncing JLC correctly.
9) Read Revolution magazine and nasty salesman/editors powerful imaginaries in the article of mickey mouse watches got me interested. Childhood nostalgia kicked in. I want my mickey mouse back. So I got the f1.
10) Pissed off at Zenith, somehow. Most may understand. Sold Zenith, because it has no connection with my lifestyle or character.
11) Got LV sub, Inspired by my love for green things, and diving. Good move. The green seiko i could wear for 8 years non stop told me i can handle this dude forever
12) what's next? no idea, but i've got to keep it simple and iconic
