Maybe they are going the route of "any publicity is good publicity". If all this preposterousness and stark product differentiation can generate immense controversy and attract a lot of "eyeballs", it will nevertheless grab the attentions of those wealthy people whose taste might not "coincide" with that of ours.

Just look at how many of us responded to John's thread already...

If that's what RJ tries to achieve in the current watch playing fields with so many brands and offerings, then that's some twisted, brilliant yet taste-less buzz marketing on their part...
