The word deployant doesn't exist in English and the proper spelling of the word in its native French would be déployante. It seems the closest word in English would be deployment. Of course this may not really be the reason but it's the best I can come up...
While I appreciate Clymer's intention of educating aspiring watch collectors about the proper dos and don'ts, I'm so accustomed to hearing deployant/deployment that it doesn't phase me at all.
