Just walking the watch
may not do that much for its power reserve, depending on a type of automatic that may have been designed to tank itself up with frequent horizontal motions.
For those long reserves. of a few days and more, I feel completely frustrated, and never sure of how much the mainspring is tensioned before it stops delivering accurate power - or just stops in the middle of the night!
I would really appreciate an automatic with a constantly updating power reserve indicater.
Without that, those fabulous designs that enable the owner to switch from vigorous to normal (?) to slow motion have no meaning for me whatsoever.
I do prefer manual winds, unless the crown is cruel to the skin on my fingers. By comparison winding the automatics (by hand) is often butter-smooth. But I do that with them every day as well!
I enjoy manual winders more than the automatics in part because I can count the number of winds before crashing into the brick wall. With automatics there is this subtile degree of feeling the point where the slippage begins - if it can be felt at all.
Cheers,
