I'm pretty sure anyone, though to a varying degree, is exposed to the influence of market trends, including folks with your level of knowledge of the industry....it's just human nature, and alas, exploiting it is another VERY successful industry! ;-)

To give you perhaps the most extreme (and highly theoretical!) example in this sense, take any of the *many* collectors who last year (legitimately) expressed their disapproval of the 5711 version whose name may not be spoken --- a $53k watch that fetched over 120 times as much at its first auction! ;-)
Well, while we'll always have ZERO data points on this, I am 100% sure that in the un-realistic event the T boutique called any of these critics to offer the watch, even the most sincere among them would have NEVER refused it!
How can we blame people when the game gets so big that even Di Caprio, Jay-Z and the like feel the need to show off on social media that "they made it" with Patek?! ;-)
However, now that I think about it, out of the 169 pieces that went for sale, T should have reserved one for this social experiment and then let us know!!
Cheers.
