I have both and am hardly alone in that regard, here on our forum.

I bought the GS about 2 years ago and the Date Just about 2 months ago.

Maybe it’s the case size, maybe it’s the fact that the GS (with Hi-Beat movement) loses nearly 6 seconds a day, maybe it’s some other, “je ne sais quois”, but if I had to choose between the two I’d take the Rolex.

Much has been said and written about Grand Seiko’s finishing, and it’s certainly at least a couple of notches above older, “neo-vintage” pieces like my 114270 Explorer. But I think Rolex has narrowed that gap with its latest offerings. While I haven’t used a loop, I think my new DateJust’s finishing is close to that of my GS. That being said my GS is cased in titanium, which is pretty cool.

In the end I’ll say what I’m guessing most others here will tell you: try a few on and be your own judge 😁.

Several models of the Datejust and only one of GS... SBGR321. I love the Datejust 36mm... The GS was very nice but my only gripe was the thickness. I felt it was too thick for a basic watch with only a date complication. 13.5mm i think it was....a full 2m...
