I'm actually taking a similar approach
Lust after it for a while and consumate or forget eventually. Although I've noticed lately I've been cheating a little bit: I tell myself I want this watch as soon as it was announced so by the time it hits my dealer, I would have technically lusted after it for a while then. Imagine the love I was spreading around SIHH/Basel! 
Criteria for keeping/selling pieces from your collection?
