Has anybody else configured their leather straps this way where the tail is at 12 o’clock position instead of the 6 o’clock?

Yes. I've been wearing my watch straps this way for many years.
On my 7-1/4 inch wrist it seems to stabilize the watch well. I'm a big fan of this strap orientation and glad to see I'm not alone, lol. M4

I have only done this on one watch my Breguet Type XXI as otherwise the Breguet on the clasp was the wrong way round and my OCD brian was in panic.

I have exchanged all my PP folding clasps to "simple" pin buckles.
Just for comfort on the wrist purpose !
