I have only done this on one watch my Breguet Type XXI as otherwise the Breguet on the clasp was the wrong way round and my OCD brian was in panic.

I would do it again if any watch needed this to make it look or fit better but in general since I discovered having made to order straps to my exact measurements I find I get a perfect fit and placement of the deployant clasp with ease. It may well be the answer for anyone else that has issues with the fit and comfort of a deployant clasp.
I find it easier to work a tang buckle with the short end at 12:00, but long end at 12:00 can look tidier. More importantly for me, the shape of my wrist is such that watches tend rife in the 12:00 direction, so the short end at 6:00 helps keep things centered on the wrist. For this reason, I keep all of my metal bracelets longer on the 12:00 side.
