Especially since a tax and reinvestment plan should incentivize the same change in behavior as an outright ban, without the outright restriction in freedom. I’m not well versed in the history of controlling and restricting exotic animal materials. Most high end watch gator straps are already being made from farmed animals means, so the restrictions on ivory are not a great precedent.* Of course, logic is just one of many inputs in the political lawmaking process.

It will be interesting to see eventually, if new Alligator strap companies will start hoarding and price increases. It’s still early for now.
