California ban
Dec 16, 2019,14:29 PM
Yesterday, I visited three Orange County boutiques of favorite brands and asked about this. All three confirmed they will no longer sell alligator straps in California as of January 1st.
Two didn't yet know how corporate would handle it, but one of these knew corporate had decided that embossed leather straps did not meet their standards.
The third indicated they will be receiving embossed leather straps (fake alligator) to retrofit to all existing inventory and that future inventory will be received in California with embossed leather straps.
PETA has been pushing for this for 20 years. Ironically, they get their wish only after the species of alligator used for high-end watch straps is no long endangered. Louisiana is suing California over this, so there is some hope that reason will prevail over emotion, but not much, considering this is California.
