I haven’t seen the offending photograph but if you check which way the swastika is oriented, it should give you the intent. Being a Hindu I am perfectly fine with the swastika as a symbol, as I have grown up with it playing a large role in religious ceremonies and decorations. However the Hindu swastika would rotate clockwise (in the direction of the open arms) while the Nazi one sometimes points the other way and is at a 45 degree orientation.
On the matter of taste, I would never have it on any of my watches. And generally if there’s any chance of offending a large group of people, I would err on the side of caution.
[edit: I have checked and both seem to point in the same direction, but the orientation is different. I think erring on the side of caution and not having this symbol on one’s person is probably the most sensible approach]
