i understand where you come from but
if I look at it as GO's break through a their traditional Navigator line, the design and execution make one of the most legible high complication functional go undisturbingly with a pilot watch. Isn't it a functional art.
On the contrary I cannot help not to think of it as mindless move for GO to diversify it's Navigator line and utilize this cal.100 perpetual movement in whatever cases that fit to capitalize on the resulting higher price point product.
IMO, among GO's Navigator, the per cal and your no date LE are the winner on both end!

I should have strap it on that day! A 42mm doesn't sound like it's size would be a problem in today's standard. But may be you've pin point the problem...the strap fitting mechanism...gapless with the watch but not with my wrist. What a pity if it doesn't...
