GP 2598 - Klein Blue special edition 38 mm cushion case

Hello friends ☀️

Today we continue talking about NEO-vintage Cushion case designs from Girard-Perregaux from 1999-2005. I encourage all to look into NEO-vintage of your favorite brand (very different from vintage). This category of watches sit between vintage and contemporary and hold the best best of both worlds IMHO.

We have seen pics of my other cushion cases Ref 2498 and 2499 with the gullioche dials. We have also looked at the ref 2598 “military” black dial and the 2598 Ivory dial. Do a search on my other posts to see them if you like.

Here we see the reference 2598 again but in a Klein blue dial with a sunburst effect. 💙

This was a special edition where 50 pieces were made. This was off-catalog, so most may not know if it’s existence.

38 mm case diameter with a central chronograph. Rectangular chronograph pushers where with bezel and crown are the only high polished parts of this piece. The case is satin brushed with lateral and vertical orientation to give definition and contrast.

Breguet numbers are applied and there is no lume. Dauphine hands. All in a white metal (I am checking to see if it is white gold). A classic look with some splashes of red which is the signature of GP for this timeframe.

They are lovely little gems to have. 38 mm case diameter and they can look good on a variety of wrists sizes. GP was/is especially famed for well balanced dials with exacting proportionality.

Condition is everything and it is even more of a “treasure discovery” when one knows that this piece is 20 years old.

Some folks don’t care about a unique watch … for me, it is high on my list of criteria. Walk into a room, and the chances of anyone else having this on their wrist is next to zero. 🥰

As always, do comment and also ask questions. I’m happy to help where I can and it encourages me to make more of such posts when I hear back from folks. 😊

Help me remember how beautiful these pieces are. Like most things in life …. So easy to take things for granted.

😄 yes, agree quirky is an apt description

Quite rare to see central Chronograph hands these days. Am/pm on the left. Small seconds on the right. Call me shallow, but I love the color of the blue dial itself. Thanks for the comment ☀️

The cushion-cased chronos you have shared honestly look to be the best similar case design I’ve seen.

The immediate comparators (of which I’m sure there’s more) include the Panerai 1940 case and the newer AP ROO 43mm chronos. The curvature and size of case make for a great experience. And this Klein dial with red accents is nicely executed.

Thanks Armis ☀️

I’m glad to see the love for the 38 mm vision cases. I hope more folks start to look for them and add them to their collections. I certainly see the case similarities with the Panerai 1940s. The lugs is what is the difference here. The GP lugs are curved ...

What a beauty!

Quite an interesting one with dial color, case shape, funky chronograph all wrapped up into a compact 38 mm package.

Thanks bro 👍🏻

Design and case shape are gorgeous...

...I can only ding it for being a bit thick...

Thanks ☀️ as for the thickness

All I can say is that it has never been an issue for me. 13.1 mm or so is fine for me. Especially since is a central seconds and minutes chronograph and the case is stepped. ...

Thanks very much ☀️❤️
