It's really true!!

Question is how many are collectors and how many are compulsive buyer. A lot of most bestseller watches are not watches for collectors but iconic watches for make a show of money. Like most popular peoples... GP, for me, is one of the last watchmaker brand really for collectors.
The reselling policy... if reselling is useful for buy others watches for me is an acceptable practice for a watches collector.
It's my personal idea... smile Cheers

Is it my imagination or is GP mostly ignored in the US?

Maybe it's just me, but I hear very little (closer to nothing) about this brand here in the US and don't know a single watch collector who owns one. Dealers seem to be far and few between as well. I like quite a few of their vintage pieces, the brand has ...

Sorry to hear that is the case in the US!

Same here in some parts of Europe... I hope GP work on expanding their AD network because they have a lot of great models and quality. Best Blomman

Interesting, thought it was a US phenomenon

Ironically, according to the GP dealer locator, the AD that I buy most of my watches from actually carries the brand in their smaller satellite location. Odd that they've never mentioned it to me or recommended any of their models when I've been on the hu...

Yes, I very much hope they do!

Now with their new CEO Patrick Pruniaux I hope we some changes in that direction! Best Blomman

Let's hope we can see some move in the right direction

GP does deserve more recognition. They used to have quite a stronghold in the US, but it seems dealers are not putting focus on GP anymore. CC

resale value is too terrible

and this is probably the main reason why you don't see them more often. To be honest I like quite a few of their watches. I don't need to earn something when selling a watch but loosing 75% isn't acceptable either. Friend of mine is selling a ... list is...

A chicken and egg problem?

 By: logan2z : January 7th, 2019-10:45
I'm assuming that the poor resale value is correlated with poor brand awareness. And since resale value is poor, nobody is interested in the brand and that leads to lack of dealers and, therefore, poor brand awareness. Perhaps if the company invests in be...

Same can be said about Zenith and some other brands

I think G-P is not an exception here ....we know who are resale kings and who are not but anyway we tend not to soeak about price tags here but passion and other nice things connected to watches

Coudn’t agree more [nt]

I've become a big fan of GP

Last time I was in Vegas, I stopped in at Horlogio and got to see a nice selection of Laureatos. Quite beautiful! My own sense is that, in the U.S., folks remain largely ignorant about the brand. I think that the new Laureatos have started to change that ...

GO?

 By: logan2z : January 7th, 2019-11:35
Freudian slip, perhaps, but I think the same argument holds for that brand - relatively little brand awareness, poor resale value and deemed a 'Lange wannabe'. One of my favorite brands, however, and I enjoy my Senator Observer immensely.

Seems well recognized in the eastern part of the world. [nt]

In the western hemisphere people tend to look down on them and especially talk bad about the Laureato – mostly because they know shit about watches.

Agreed...

 By: Moana43 : January 7th, 2019-11:05
There is certainly a trend on watch forums to regard the Laureato as a Royal Oak wannabe, and my sense is that plenty of people are influenced by this kind of group think.

I only know of one AD near me that carries GP

Last time I was there they were reducing prices on the GP models displayed in the window.

Lucky you [nt]

It's true that GP doesn't have broad consumer awareness in the US. Prior to the last recession in 08/09, GP watches were being sold brand new at 20-30% of MSRP on grey market dealer sites. ADs couldn't sell them and had them on permanent discounting. Pric...

Easier to be passionate about things if it barely changes your account balance.
